Renaissance Faires

I think Harris Teeter sells tickets at a lower advance price than you'd pay at the gate. Also First Charter Bank has a coupon pack the kids with savings acct get, there is a coupon in that pack for free admission for the kids.

I go! :) princess: I dress up and everything. I get really into it. I don't know if we'll be going this year though, as our WDW trip is in DEC. and we're saving up for that.

Maybe though. Ours is called King Richards Faire and it has the usual stuff - joust, exotic animals, medieval stuff for sale etc.

We have one right now in Harveysburg Ohio. Good thing is, I won 4 tickets to it! Just have to pay for 1 child. Hooray!
We drop a lot of money on food. I think we will pack like Tiggeroo suggested.

We were thinking of coming to that one! If you don't mind, let me know how it is!

We went to our first Pirate Faire today. Pretty interesting. The kids really got into it - so did DH.

We SO wanted to go to that but we had a family event to attend.
I hope they hold it again next year on Talk Like a Pirate Day.

started at the original in CA and now that I live in TN we own a booth at our local small faire. We traveled to Atlanta's faire this past spring and usually hit Ohio every other year. Dh worked at the PA Ren Faire before he moved here. We have yet to make it back to visit that one so I've never seen it up and running. I have a hard time justifying a trip to PA, same distance to Disney for us! :teeth:

Use some of the disney budget tactics....Bring your Brita water bottle, pack some sandwiches and a wallet full of money and all will be well :p

Do you sell things?

We used to go every year and our group would all dress up. That was about 10-15 years ago. As the years went on less and less people in our group wanted to go, and it seemed no one was dressing up any more. The fair itself seemed to get more and more commercial so we stopped going.

We go to the King Richard's Faire every year. For free too :p

I would love to go to a pirate fest. I had planned on going to Pirates in Paradise in Key West in Dec. but dh has been laid off and even though he's getting back to work money will be tight.

OH! I grew up going to that one! We lived in NH, and my Dad would take me and my brother every year! I loved it! That's why I've started taking my kids to the one here in NC now. princess:

We went to the Maryland Renaissance Festival yesterday, for the 12th straight year. DH and I first said, "I love you," there so it will always be a tradition.

I think it's very reasonably priced. For the three of us (DH, DS, and me) to get in it was $42. We spent another $60 on food, drinks and a hat for DS that goes with the cape he bought last year. As my husband reminded me yesterday, we would have spent triple that on a day at WDW.

we go to the MD renn fest every year. it is on land that one of our friend's family owns and leases out for the festival. :D

Thanks for the tip! I knew about HT but not First Charter. We must live in the same area since First Charter is not exactly those two banks headquartered in Charlotte!

Yes we do. This coming year we will be doing "Adopt-a-Dragon" "Adopt-a-Fairy" and we've done lots of things through the years...jewelry, clothes, oils/incense. It depends on what we are in the mood for! I like to do some of my collectibles becuase whatever is leftover I get to keep ;) I collect pocket dragons and amy brown fairys.

We are very into adding to the atmosphere and do a lot of 'street' acting while we are there to keep people involved. :jester:

edited to say....and...you're not the only female RPG'er here on the Dis :smooth:

:) I collect those too, Amy Brown is my favorite artist. And I adore Pocket Dragons. :)

I wanna adopt a dragon and a fairy! :) That is so cool!

finished. They are really turning out great but I won't get serious until january. Did you see my edit in my last post? Just wanted you to know you're not alone on the Dis, though we may be the only two (four if you count your BF and my DH) Disney lovin' RPG'ers alive.

:) You should definately put some up for "adoption"! :)

I posted a thread not too long ago about RPGs and was surprised that so many responded. There's more of us than we think... :smooth:

What do you play? We mostly play D&D, though we just started playing one set in the old west (BF's new obsession)...

I love them!
We just went to one 2 weeks ago and it was really fun!
Love the costumes, the horses, the jousts, the food, the shops..... all of it!

We play D&D, some White Wolf stuff, some live action stuff. Right now we are on hiatus until after our November trip, too much to do before then though we will be attending a live action halloween ball.

That is really cool. :) Chris used to own a gaming store so he has all kinds of stuff, it's usually just a matter of getting our group of gamers to try new things. We usually stick to D&D. Some of the White Wolf stuff is really cool, too.
