Remy Dinner?

I'm sailing a 3 night solo cruise on the Dream in January (a follow-up to my solo Magic cruise last month, since my life is still crazy and the GT prices are still cheap), and am planning to skip the MDRs this time. I have Palo dinner booked for my first night. The second day is our CC day and I plan to eat heartily at the island buffet, and then get quick service from the pool deck for dinner. I had originally planned to have Palo dinner again the final night, but now I'm leaning towards trying Remy dinner.

I tried Remy brunch on the Fantasy about 5 years ago and didn't care for it, because there were almost no choices allowed and I didn't happen to care for a lot of what was served. It seems that Remy dinner allows for more choices, though- is that correct? I will tell them, no alcohol or shellfish- those are the big things I avoid. Beyond that, as long as I have a smidgen of choice (for example, I don't want Nutella for dessert like they served at the brunch), I should be okay foodwise.

Do you think it's worthwhile to go solo? I don't drink alcohol so no drinks they serve will be a draw for me. Is it frowned upon there to ask for a Coke? Is a lot of food served at Remy, or just a reasonable amount since they serve small portions? I can only eat so much at one sitting. Should I order a la carte? Is it too fancy a place to read off your phone while you eat? Kindle is my companion during solo dinners out. TIA.

The Remy dinner experience is pretty formal, but they excel at making everyone feel comfortable. One thing you may want to know, though, is that the menu is currently more limited than usual. At least as of a couple of weeks ago, they were only serving Chef Arnaud’s side of the menu (plus several available substitutions) but had not resumed serving Chef Scott’s side of the menu.

Good to know. I think I'm going to stick with Palo.

I honestly think, based on your post above regarding how you like to dine, Remy is probably not the best use of your money. It's a fixed price for a set number of courses, and the selections are limited. I think you would be happier at Palo dinner where you can limit the amount of food you order and also specifically select each dish.

As a fellow introvert, I think Remy would be too much 'attention' for me. . . . feed me and go away! (I know, I don't really mean it . . . well, maybe a little. . . )

Yes, this all fed into my decision to stick with Palo. I'm not into penny pinching on vacation, but as I'm not a "foodie", I don't think any meal would be worth $125 to me. I think I'm going to do Palo dinner a la carte each day, which on a light day might just mean getting a salad, soup and dessert, for example.

Yesterday I watched a video of someone's Remy meal, and that sealed my decision not to go there solo. If I were with someone else and wanted to socialize, it would be fine, but solo, I'd rather get into my book and not have to listen to the waiter explain all of the many courses he's bringing over.

I'm sad to hear that. I prefer Chef Scott's. Is there any estimate when it will return?

Our server told us that it would be returning, but didn’t know when. They’re still in the process of ramping things up after the restart. One of his chicken dishes was on the brunch menu, however - it was fantastic!

My biggest sadness with Remy since restarting was the dessert at brunch. The rum/vanilla soaked brioche bun with cream was gone and there was a disappointing and completely forgettable apple something or another. I really hope the brioche returns.

Heck yes....live YOUR life.

I don't drink alcohol so no drinks they serve will be a draw for me. Is it frowned upon there to ask for a Coke?

Great many people don't drink alcohol.....just means there will be more for me. :)

Is a lot of food served at Remy, or just a reasonable amount since they serve small portions?

The portions are super small. But at a place like this, you get 5-8 small portions...and they add up to one BIG meal. Pace yourself.

Is it too fancy a place to read off your phone while you eat?

YES! Sorry, but I think almost any restaurant is too fancy for your phone. Sorry...old school manors. Phones should NOT be on the table being read or babysit children, especially this place. I will loose it if I get seated next to a vlogger at any Disney restaurant. I want to enjoy my food. Not be distracted by a device light or some vlogger babbling on.

Kindle is my companion during solo dinners out.

That is the one bad thing about dining solo. No one to talk too.
