hi everyone!

Talk to me about Remy dinner. DH and I have sailed on DCL twice now (Dream and Wonder) and have eaten at both Palo Brunch and Dinner both times. We plan a return to Palo Brunch but are considering changing it up and trying out Remy. My only deterrent is the price - $95 per person - OUCH! We're both not big drinkers so we wouldn't do the wine pairings.

My questions:
Is it "worth" the cost?
Is the food enough to get full?
Is it all you care to order? Say if we really enjoyed a dish, can we order a 2nd?
Does dinner really take 2-3 hours?

Thank you in advance!

My questions:
Is it "worth" the cost? YES!!! Please be aware they also offer some additional cost items.
Is the food enough to get full? Yes, you will get more than enough to eat.
Is it all you care to order? Say if we really enjoyed a dish, can we order a 2nd? Never tried but they may allow it.
Does dinner really take 2-3 hours? It can but you can ask them to speed it up. We like the leisurely pace.

IMHO Remy is as good or better than the best restaurants in the world.

Honestly - if you are concerned you may need to order extra food and you want them to speed it up, it's probably not what you are looking for. It's a dining experience not just a meal. Read through the other thread and you can get a much better idea of what it is and what you can expect. You have enjoyed Palo in the past and it may be more the special meal you are looking for.

We have eaten at Remy many times and I can honestly say that I am always too full by dessert to be doing anything but eating for sport, so I think you will have plenty of food. I don't think you can get out of there in less than 2 hours - we are always there for 3 but we like to discuss the food and really savor every dish that is served.

We spent 3+ hours there with our foodie 45-year-old son and loved it. Each course was a special treat to be savored and we got our $$ worth. On another cruise we took one of our Oregon wines to Palo. Our waiter and the wine steward had never seen anything like it. The steward tasted it, loved same and we left about a 1/5th of the bottle with him. He later contacted the winery but we don't know if anything further was done. In any case, we look at these special meals as "on-board" excursions that are worth at least one visit.

LIke I said in the last post I know a multi millionaire who would think its way too much money. Also know a couple in serious debt who will have no problem spending that kind of money at remy. For me it was one and done. Food was terrific but I don't like wearing a suit and a lot of $$$ for my blood.

I would think typically not for a couple of reasons. You pick your courses at the beginning because every course is prepared and made just before you eat. So to stop in the middle of the dining and ask to do it again will likely throw everything off. More importantly IMHO is that the meal isn't just a collection of various dishes, it is a progression. Typically it goes from lighter proteins to heavier proteins. If you are doing a wine pairing, it might go from light whites to heavier reds as the proteins get heavier. Flavours from course to course are meant to meld and build up from prior courses. Plus, I barely made it to dessert last time. I got about halfway through the dessert before admitting defeat. It was so much food. And because they do pause quite a bit between courses (yes, it does take 2-3 hours to fully appreciate everything; it's not meant to be mere sustenance but experience and pleasure) - to prepare and make your next course, to let you digest, to rest your palate between courses, to relax and chat to your tablemate, to finish up your drink if you have one - your stomach recognizes that you've eaten a lot. When you eat fast, by the time your stomach realizes you're no longer hungry you've already finished your meal but at Remy you'll start to feel full before dessert.

Worth is so very subjective. We love it (and the brunch and the multi-course dessert experience) and feel it's worth every single penny. But it's something we truly love to do. For us, it is not a meal, it is (as someone else expressed) an excursion every bit as much as one that leaves the ship at a port.

yes worth the cost-not only for the food but for the experience is amazing.
you will have way more than enough food, you won't be able to walk out of there-it's like a 6-course meal and also a cheese course and dessert.
i'm not sure if you could order a 2nd but not sure that you would want to. like i said it's very filling and you want to experience all the courses.
yes the dinner takes at least 2 hours minimum.

I love Remy and think it's very distinct and unique from Palo and fairly priced relative to Palo. That seems to be the heart of your question. Yes, if Palo and Remy were on the same street in your city, I'd expect Remy to cost that much more than Palo. Does that help?

Never left there hungry, never asked for a second helping (except the breads). I bet if you had a cheese you loved or something they'd throw you more. Always had at least the opening cocktail (I won't spoil the surprise with the name) and always taken a TON of desserts with me when I left.

Even if you're not a big drinker, if you enjoy really excellent, thoughtful, interesting wine pairings, they do a marvelous job.

And yes, it can be a long meal. I've both taken it leisurely AND asked them to hurry so we could get back to kids. The service is impeccable and they will accommodate.

For, me, the price is fair for the experience, food etc. Probably not for everyone else, but for me, yes.

YES! Worth every penny. First time, we were both stuffed. She and I intentionally selected opposite menus so as to get the full experienced. Second time, not as full, but pleasantly topped off, if you know what I mean. Honestly, it's one of the best restaurants we've attended. The service is excellent, food fantastic and the view...amazing. If you get the early sitting (~6) you can have your pick of the tables. Savor the cheese course. Last time I said something I never thought I'd ever say, "This celery is amazing" :). The kids ate on their own: the first time at AP with our server watching over them, the second time in the CLAB/Edge. We took our time and enjoyed every minute.

Remy is WORTH IT! We were married on the Dream last Oct and did Remy brunch together as a treat away from the group. We went whole hog and got the champagne with it, and I do not regret a second of it. The ham! The truffle bread! the LOBSTER with edible flowers! just. yum.

if you are trying to treat yourself, this is the way to go. That being said, it's because you are treating yourself that you don't want to go into it trying to speed it up. It's a leisurely 2 hour experience, so allow yourself time. And I don't think you will need extra plates, even if you could get them. It's a decent meal.

Enjoy!

My question, and apologies I may have asked this before, I love food almost all food but especially French food. So this is right up my alley. My husband not so much. He does not eat fish or seafood (or lamb). Would there be options for him? Thanks

My wife doesn't eat seafood or lamb and she does just fine at Remy. They can even do a vegetarian menu if requested. I know @kathi has done that before because she was eating on the other side of the dining room from us.

Can I piggy back a question? For Remy brunch, I've heard that there are add-ons for an upcharge. What are they and are the ad-on/pairings worth it?

For us----worth every penny. It was outstanding. We like that kind of thing though, so it was perfect.

It comes down to how much you'll value the experience. Having eaten at Remy, simply to see what the hype was about, my wife and I loved every second of it. To us, it was an experience and not a dinner. We had a choice of water, to start. We laughed but after ordering two different ones (I ordered the Glenfiddich water, because I love Glenfiddich Scotch) and trying both, there is a very noticeable difference. The quality of service is something that we've rarely experienced. The food arrives in small, artistically displayed portions but can be filling. Every plate is an experience. At the end of the day, it's fine dining but the experience will outlast the food, in memory. You can't put a price on that.

We always order the Glenlivet still water because we love it.
