Removing Food/Drink from Concierge Lounges

The plates are so tiny I can't see how anyone could take a large amount of food :confused3

I like to take a couple of pieces of cheese with crudités to nibble on in the privacy of my room whilst i'm getting ready to go out for my evening meal, I'm not a lover of party style food (i'm also gluten free so usually a number of items are no-go for me anyway).

We grabbed some beers and watched SEC Championship in our room.
There was anti-football fan in the lounge area that wouldn't let us change the channel.....

One morning I saw a family sitting at a table in the Poly CL lounge stuffing food in zip lock bags. The Dad was just wearing a robe. He reminded me of cousin Eddie from the Vacation movies.

I wasn't under the impression that the concierge lounge was a free grocery store. I thought you partook of the offerings while you were there or took something that you had already started and were finishing back to your room. Or maybe a small treat for one of the kids. But it wasn't intended to be a source to stock your room.

Perhaps not...but the WL CL CM's actually encouraged bringing food back to our room on several occasions. DH had simply asked for a beer one night and they came back with 4 and said that he could keep them in our fridge. And when we were checking out, Randy, the CL mgr actually told us to hold on while he went and wrapped up 10 chocolate chip cookies for our daughters to take for our travels....

When we stayed at Poly CL, the CM knew my husband loved the POG. They generously offered to make it for him in a carafe to take to a table or back to our room. They also gave us paper plates to bring snacks to the tables by the pool. Never once was discouraged by CM's, always encouraged. Never took advantage--wonderful, wonderful experience. They also sent my children with a zip lock bag of cookies for the plane ride home.

Last year (April 2011) we were at the Contemporary staying club level. I don't drink carbonated beverages (or alcohol), and wanted something besides water. I've always been able to get lemonade. I asked and the CM's said they were waiting for a shipment. We were there for a week and on day three the shipment still had not arrived so CM Paul stopped at Walmart on his way to work and bought me two six packs of minute maid lemonade and put them in the fridge in our room!

I never asked him to do that and I thanked him profusely and tried to pay him for them, but he wouldn't take anything. The entire staff there went above and beyond that trip and are by far my favortie CL CM's.

So if a CM bought 2 six packs of lemondade for me and stocked them in my fridge, I would think it's quite okay to take things back to your room from the lounge!

Well I might be in the minority here but since I am the first one awake in our family I always go down to the lounge to eat breakfast and drink coffee while watching the news, then I take breakfast back to the room for everyone else so they can eat while they get ready. Usually my kids eat at the table in our room and watch TV while DH is in the shower. I have always seen people taking breakfast to their rooms, tables are limited anyway, especially at the Beach Club, there is no way everyone can eat in the lounge and have a seat. Maybe that makes me a bad person, I don't know.

No one ever said that the CL was a grocery store, and at about $100 extra per night for CL the food certainly isn't free. During peak times at breakfast and between 5-6 it is sometimes impossible to get a table - there is nothing wrong in bringing food back to your room rather than wait for a table to open up. And even if all the tables were empty there is nothing wrong in bringing back food to your room to eat if this is what you want to do.

You are not in the minority here!!. I am amazed at the people who never stay CL, but always feel they have the right to set their own rules what is and what isn't acceptable if you are staying CL.

When we stayed at AKL I used to take a glass of wine for myself and my DH back tot eh room so we could enjoy sitting on the balcony before dinner. There is a vast difference between using the food in the lounge in place of meals and taking a treat back to the room instead of sitting in the lounge.

We are staying CL @ BW in Dec (and CL @ WL next Oct) and definately plan on bringing a few things back to the room for later.

Will I roll in the stroller and "fill it up"??....ABSOLUTELY NOT! But, we may bring a few sodas or beers or cookies or something. We are a family of 6, so it may look like we are trying to clean out the place :rotfl2:

I think done in moderation, it is fine to bring the stuff to your room, however, trying to wipe out the entire beer selection to take back to your room, not so much. I would personally ask the CL CM before grabbing more than probably 2 beers (1 for myself, 1 for DH) or sodas.

This might have something to do with FL alcohol laws. I once saw a cashier at Gasparillas refuse to sell 5 beers to someone who was clearly over 21. The purchaser started to put up a fuss, and the cashier explained to her that by law she couldn't sell her more than 2 beers, as there was no guarantee that she wouldn't be giving the rest of the beers to minors. I know this doesn't make sense in that this same person could have gone into a supermarket and bought as much beer as they wanted. Maybe this is a law that pertains to hotels, and this is what happened at the AKL. If the person at the AKL was with 5 other people, I am sure that collectively they could have taken 6 beers out of the lounge.
Interesting. Most of the gift shops at deluxe resorts (DVC Resorts for sure) sell beer by the six pack. Earlier this month, six packs of Bud products were $15 at the Boardwalk and OKW.

We stayed BWI concierge this past June. We rarely ate in the lounge as our room was just down the hall and I don't see how adding three more little kids to the mix would enhance the overall ambience. Plus I never wanted to take a table from someone who came from the 3rd floor or the cottages. I think they would be more likely to want to stay. Always took breakfast back. We usually missed the evening offerings . major cookie hoarders though. Major.

I am not sure I believe this "story." At the AKL club we observed a person taking 6 beers and the CMs stopped him. They then pulled the beers off the line. You had to ask for them the rest of the night. At most of the other clubs they have the beers in the small frig with the exception of the PR where we found them behind the counter. Over the years we always found the Cm's will stop people taking large numbers (>2) of beers out of the club lounge.

Don't know, I didn't personally witness it, read it on another board -Cm posted it. I would believe it, I've seen some unbelievable behaviour from "guests" at WDW.

Yes, the CL staff are truly wonderful, at BC they noticed how much my daughter loved the salt water taffy, and gave her a big bag of it for the flight home :good vibes

We've taked a few things back to our room for snacking on later. I don't think anyone minds, as long as you're not abusing it, or loading up zip lock baggies  wow

I agree with your thoughts Sue M. Good idea about tranferring the wine. :goodvibes
This is a very interesting thread. I think things change either with the times or perhaps the individual CM's at the concierge lounges. I read a couple weeks ago about someone asking about taking bottles of water to their room to drink out by the pool or take to the park. Also, what about a few soda's or beer. My thoughts were that the bottles of water were large glass bottles. I certainly wouldn't want to carry them to the park or pool.

Someone else then posted that they had checked into their room on CL and had their frig already filled with 4 beers, 4 soda's and 4 waters. :confused3 Is this a new policy or where they left by a previous guest?

A few years ago my DH went to the AK lounge during dessert and cordial offerings. I was in the room getting changed. He poured two (half-full small cordial glasses) of liquor and started to leave and was stopped. He was told he could only removed one item of alcohol per person, however we were welcome to both come to the lounge for dessert and drinks.

When we were staying at CSR Sept of 2009, a six pack of Bud was over $30!! Way too much money.:scared:
