Before my DH left for MD for two weeks, he threw in a load of clothes - just grabbed everything from the kid's basket and our basket and threw it in the wash. He didn't check pockets or anything and low and behold, when he went to take the clothes out of the dryer, realized one of the boys had a black crayon and red crayon in their pocket or thrown in with their clothes. I've tried oxyclean, ironing with like newspaper and goo gone to remove the crayon. I've had no luck. I'm thinking the load is a loss at this point - some of the stuff can still be worn (pjs and stuff like that) but some things (both of our FD uniform shirts :headache:) are a loss unless a DISer can share with me how to save these clothes! I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.

I can't remember what I did when this happend 12 years ago. What I DO remember is that we called the 800 number on the back of the crayola box for advice. They had a recording about what to do in the phone system options:lmao:so I figured it happens a lot;) I know we managed to save about 75% of the load (some things just could not be salvaged. They also had ideas on how to clean out the dryer drum. I think you have to do this or you can continue to get crayone residu on other clothes for many more loads. SO, my advice is call Crayola:thumbsup2

Found it on their website:thumbsup2 Good luck:goodvibes

"How to remove Crayons (Regular) from fabrics-fresh stains/heat-set stains(melted):

Cleaning Materials
Laundry detergent
Bleach for colored clothing (Clorox 2® or OxiClean powder)
Paper towels
Amodex® ink & stain remover (optional)
WD-40® (car part lubricant)
Liquid dish soap

Stain Removal Tips
Place the stained surface down on pad of paper towels, spray with WD-40, let stand a few minutes, turn fabric over and spray the other side. Apply liquid dish soap and work into the stained area, replacing toweling as it absorbs the stain. Wash in hot water with laundry detergent and Clorox 2 or OxiClean powder for about 12 minutes (use heavy soiled setting if there is no minute timer on your machine) and rinse in warm water. SPECIAL NOTE: Heat-Set Stains-Clean the drum of your dryer to remove any remaining wax residue. Spray a soft cloth with WD-40, and wipe the drum. Clean the WD-40 residue from the drum by washing with liquid dish soap and water. Run a load of dry rags through a drying cycle to ensure that your drum is clean. (Optional)-Amodex® ink & stain remover PROCEDURE: Use on fabric according to directions on container. Purchase Amodex by calling 800-624-7367 or visit www.fahrneyspens.com. "

When this happened to us with a blue crayon, I soaked everything in Oxiclean for a couple of days. It all came out. When this happened with a black crayon, I did the same; but a few things just couldn't be saved. Those clothes(mostly tshirts) became part of DH's grass cutting clothes. A few more spots have come out after being washed a few times.

Did you let the goo gone actually soak into the clothes? This happened to us a few months ago (red-orange crayon) :headache: and I had to let the goo gone soak into the crayon stains for about 30 minutes, then go over the goo gone with dawn dishwashing liquid and a nail brush scrubbing, then washing with vinegar (about a cup) added into the water.. can I just say it was a veeeeery long couple of days. After the washing I did have to do a couple of the items again, but it came out of about 90% of the 20-25(!!) things I had in that load, even white stuff. The things it wouldn't come out of were mostly 100% cotton items. Also, the dryer will heat set the crayon...so make sure you don't dry anything until you know the crayon stains are out.

Good luck :laundy:

Thank you all so much for all of your tips! I so appreciate them!!!! I did let the goo gone soak in - the directions on the bottle say to let it soak, blot off what comes off and keep doing that until most of the stain is out....after that didn't work, I just sprayed it on and and tried to wash it again.

I never even thought to call/check with Crayola!

Again, thanks so much!!
