So 3 weeks ago I was fired from a job of 16 yrs. Well my DISers it still hurts. I am tapping into my 401K(cause if I don't my babies won't have a Christmas). I am also gonna pull funds for a WDW trip next October-making my niece Katie's dreams come true. I took my DD & DS in March 2011, made their dreams come true. My niece has always lived with my Mom & Dad. My sister has never had her crap together. Katie's Dad wants nothing to do with her. This little girl really deserves some magic. Her lot in life has really sucked. She is 7. Her dream is to meet Ariel. I love her to pieces. She is the most giving child I know. Her bday is July 25th. I am fixing her a Disney box to suprise her. All I am asking for is prayers that nothing messes this up. God has a plan for me & I will start looking after 1st of the year-just want prayers that the new employer won't give me a hard time to be off on Fall break.

Some of our greatest memories are our trips to Disney and they help us get through the hard times. As long as the bills can get paid, than I say no harm done. You can't take money with you to the grave.

You can't take your money to the grave but you can take it to the Retirement Community and the Nursing Home.
It might be better if you just bought an ariel costume and dressed up and pretended to be ariel. It'd save a lot of money and you could possibly get a job doing it around town at birthday parties. Do you have red hair?
Withdrawing from your 401K before the age of 59.5 years comes with a lot of penalties. You will owe the taxes on that money. The federal government will keep at least 20% of whatever you withdraw just to cover the taxes and early withdrawal penalty.I wasn't very clear in my post-sorry for that. I won't tell her until next July on her bday. I am taking time to pray about where He wants me to go from here. I had a bank job and I really don't believe that is where I am meant to be. I am not taking a loan but a draw from the 401K. I have reasons which I have discussed with someone but don't think this is the place to list. Really I should not have mentioned that. I have just read so many posts and this group is very caring. Thank you for your concern.

The federal government will keep at least 20% of whatever you withdraw just to cover the taxes and early withdrawal penalty. You will also lose all future earnings on that investment, which could amount to over $25K over 30 years assuming a very modest 6% rate of growth. There are plenty of valid reasons for taking money out of a 401k. Taking a trip to Disney World is not one of them. If you have the money to pay for a trip but not your mortgage, you need to reallocate those funds to what's really important - keeping a roof over your kids' heads.
