Here's another one I use too!

http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/freeDownload.jsp

SpywareBlaster found 952 items to protect me against.

Spybot found 3 items.

Ad-aware found 22 items.

and I keep Norton Anti-Virus and Zone Alarm running all the time.

Just a reminder to all - I had to make some changes to the settings on my programs so that I could still get into my Excite email account. I also had a data error with Mypoints email and am still trying to figure it out.

Just ran SpyWareBlaster = 806 items!

I'm hoping I don't mess anything up too awful bad by being a sheep and following you gals ... I'm a computer dummy and if anything went wrong I'd be in big trouble.

I'd have to pack up my 'puter, head to one your homes and have you help me make it right again::yes::

this program over a week ago and it found 806 total.

Have you guys done the HiJack this yet and posted to that forum?

I was surprized at what it found and what they told me to do fixed the problems I was having with my computer.

Not disconnecting when I signoff and not shutting down when I shut down it was taking forever to shut down and now it shuts right down.

I just installed spy bot. I was finally able to get AdAware 6.0 through AOL after trying about a zillion times to get it through the website. I'm going to hold off on the HiJack because it says with that program you may remove some things that are needed and not bad, so I'd be brilliant enought to do something like that.

Thanks for the heads up about spybot will post what it gets rid of on here. Adaware is averaging about 20 every two days.

it only scans your computer then you post a log of the scan at computer cops and they tell you which programs to get rid of.

You can question them to what the program is and they will tell you so you do not remove anything vital.

It is really worth doing because I had one that was dialing up the internet and not disconnecting no telling what it was uploading to the darn hacker that program it!

but as always these are only suggestions and I do hope they help.

Even if you do not download HiJack go to computercops forums and read the security issues thread it is very enlightening.

I did post my findings Mal and was quickly helped. Found something suspicious. Ended up not being a virus, but not something I needed either and I chose to delete it.

:scared1: I was looking at some clipart sites when the next thing I knew I was booted offline and then my modem started dialing. There was nothing I knew to do except pull the plug because it just kept redialing and the 'puter was not responding to the keyboard commands.

Once I turned it back on I had a new progam installed and under internet connections there was a new ISP program. MainPead or something like that. I think that's the one that was dialing. Anyhow, I deleted all the new stuff I could find.

I have no idea how or what took over my 'puter but keep all your stuff updated!! Scary!!!

My homepage keeps changing and my computer is extremely slow! Which program do you recommend I run first? I'm not familiar with most of this and appreciate your assistance. Annmarie

Okay! I just ran Spyware Blaster and it found 806 items. I don't know if I should just delete all of them. Any suggestions?

DS has that terrible stomach virus and I have not been on the computer all day.

Have you downloaded and install HiJackThis yet?

If not I recommend that you do that and then after that do a scan and post the log at Computer Cops they will walk you though what needs to go.

Hope that helps

My homepage keeps changing and my computer is extremely slow! Which program do you recommend I run first?

That happened to me the morning I decided to run Ad-Aware 6 (Lavasoft) each night before turning off the computer. It never happened again.

In fact, in only 230 scans, the log recorded (as of today) 2.518 spyware! So, download and run Ad-Aware 6 ASAP

but you will be totally taken aback at what is lurking on your computer when you post a log at CC!

I was.

Adaware and Spyblaster do not find everything.

Mal

Thank you for bumping this thread. My hubby ran the programs last night, and we were amazed at what was on our computer! It is also running better now!

I know it is amazing what lurks on our computers!

Did you download and run HiJack and post a scan at Computer Cops?

They are really great about clearing out what Adaware and Spyware misses.

Mal,

I forgot to post here but thanks for your help. I used Hijackthis and there was a lot that computercop told me to eliminate. I also ran a defrag which seems to have made my system run faster.

Thanks again,
Annmarie
