Hi everyone!

I am trying to find out if and where I can get a remote shutter release for my camera. It's a Canon SX10 IS.

1) Can I even GET a remote shutter for this type of camera?
2) About how much do they cost?

TIA! =)

Based on Canon's specs and a quick google search, there is no remote (wired or wireless) available for the SX10IS. (It's actually kind of surprising since it's a somewhat higher end camera.)

The SX10 IS is a point-and-shoot (PnS) camera. PnS cameras typically don't have a remote shutter releases - wired or wireless, because average PnS user is just interested in quick snapshots and doesn't have much need for one. They almost always have a built-in shutter release timer, which in many instances will work just as well as a remote.

I was afraid that was the answer! I had trouble finding anything and I figured it didn't come with one, but I thought I would ask the experts anyway! Thanks to you both! :)

I remember a long time ago Sony, I think, hyped a "remote control" for sale for their PnS, but that was years and years ago. Since then the PnS market has been towards simplifying the cameras as much as possible. I remember when most PnS cameras still had Manual mode; now, that's a rarity among "consumer" PnS cameras. They're just trying to make them as small as possible and require as little thought as possbile.

yes, but some Canon P&S cameras can be configured with a wired or wireless remote by using the "CHDK" program on the SD card

I considered mentioning that, but not only do you have to use CHDK (which I have on my A590IS), you also have to build the remote. Also, it is actually only for a wired remote, though I suppose you could have a dongle on the camera receive signals (IR or radio) from a separate device.
