Of the three remote shutters ( I think there are three) available for the XT which one would you buy and why.

Canon RC-1. It is small and reliable and works up to 16 feet. It can be set for either instant shutter release or 2-second delay. It also be used to activate mirror-lock and bulb-shutter functions. A nice feature is it clips right on the camera strap.

I also use the Canon Remote Switch RS-60E3 when I am going to be behind the camera. It works just like the shutter button but takes out the shake of pressing down the shutter with your finger. It works great for extra long exposures using the "bulb" setting on the camera.

Thank you very much for the response....we are leaving early Thursday for Disney and thought I may pick one up for some night time photos in front of the castle. I really can't say enough about my XT and thought why not take full advantage....while not letting anyone else actually touch my new toy....

and you don't need to get original Canon for the cable shutter release. Get the 3rd party from eBay (or make one yourself using a Nokia-compatible handsfree with talk/hangup button, you can get it from the Dollar Store).

If you don't need the timing to be perfect, just use the timer release and safe yourself a buck.

is the nokia thing you are talking abut wireless? my new and old cell phones are nokia...so i might acutally have what ever you are taking about...i have the rebel remote but if i could use my phone somehow............

I think Kelly is referring to a headset for a cellphone. It is not wireless, the jack plugs into the same port where the wired remote would go and when you press the talk-end/answer button it trips the shutter. Pretty darn good idea if you ask me.

jann, what Kelly is talking about is the earpiece that comes with many Nokia phones, the one that plugs into the phone. It has a "talk/hangup button and it can be used as a shutter release instead of buying the Canon RS60 E3 switch that sells for about $20 on amazon.

This is the Canon:

yup! I'm talking about the wired Nokia-compatible handsfree with talk/hang switch. I used to use it with my 300D. Bought it from my local Dollar Store.

Ghetto for sure, but I can also use it as my hands free for my (then) Nokia cellphone.

I'm going to have to look for one of those next time I'm out. I was contemplating the wireless remote, but I think I like the cheap version just as well! :)
