Hiya,

I need help!

DF wants a remote control car for xmas. I have decided I am choosing it so it is a surprise of sorts but I have noooo idea where to start looking.

Budget is flexible for the right car and his specific request is it is a thumb remote control one with rear wheel drive at a scale of 1:14. He did want a buggy type thing to ram into my skirting boards but I veoted that idea!.

Has anybody got a remote control car? Can anybody tell me what to look out for?

Hi Jodie

I think you need to find out a few things if you want to get this right. Firstly does your DF want to build the car himself from scratch or does he just want to open the box and start driving the car around?? Also would he be wanting a battery powered car or is he interested in getting a petrol model??

Another consideration you might need to think about is what vehicle he wants. Most cars of this scale are replicas of actual cars so you have a lot of choice of most modern day road, racing and rally vehicles. If he is looking to start a collection then there might be a particular model he would like to start if off with.

I know this probably hasn't been much help but I don't think it is a simple as looking in a catalogue or going into a shop and just picking.

I think I know most of the answers to this!

Not petrol - He has had one before, this is strictly for in house use

Not self build - I got him a self build lego ferrari last xmas, for age 8 and above. It took him 10 hours!

Not rally or racing - Think modern day road, something like a Jeep or for a laugh a Punto which is what he drives!

What about mini one? Loads of places sell them and they are nice.

He does collect Mini's so that would be a good choice but I dont want to run out and get the first thing I see.

Thanks Goofyish, I think I am leaning towards a Ferrari. I found a website on history Gavin had been browsing and there where a lot of ferraris on there. The F40 is my fave at the moment.

When you chaps refer to "petrol", do you mean Nitrus models ?

Some of my mates had a phase a couple of years back where they all bought these extremely fast cars that had 2 stroke engines and ran on Nitrus fuel. They were fantastic.....I think the one to own was a "schumacher" (which was nothing to do with "michael").
They certainly had to have deep pockets though, they were always smashing suspension and steering parts on them.
