Remodled cabins

We just got back from our trip on Friday. We had a refurbished cabin in loop 2200. We found it to be very nice. The microwave was a convection oven (although we never used it). The new sleeper sofa comfortably slept two adults, so I believe it was probably a queen size, although I never checked to confirm. The bed in the bedroom is still a double. The extra storage space under the TV where the murphy bed was previously was so nice to have, as we had 5 adults and needed the extra storage :thumbsup2

Overall pretty nice. At first I did feel like the couch pattern seemed out of place, but it definitely lightened the room up. Also, if you look closely at the new curtains you can see tree silhouettes on them, which I thought tied into the forest/wilderness theme pretty well, even though it was subtle.
Thanks for the report! Do you know what other loops were being worked on?

I believe all of 2100 and 2200 are complete. 2300 and possibly 2400 are underway.

I've read on other boards that the new microwave is also a convection oven. My microwave/convection oven works really well and I can fit a 12" x 18" pan in it so I can bake or roast most of the same foods in there that I can in my full-size oven.
t looks like the exact same microwave/ convection oven we have in out RV. It does bake really nicely!

We're arriving on the 24th, I think I may request and see if i can try out one of the new refurbished ones.

From a practical stand point I agree with the changes. The old kitchens were SO dated, but I don't think the finishes on the kitchen or the couch fit the rustic cabin/camping in the woods vibe at all. I'm glad we went in July and stayed in an older one.

We stayed in 2228 so it was an updated cabin. There is a tv where the murphy bed was, its about a 50 or 55" hd tv along with a blu-ray player. All the cabins have had their decks updated, they were in the process of tearing up and replacing the insides of the 2600 loop.

We are here now in a refurbished cabin, the kitchen is a great improvement the microwave is a convection oven and you can cook a lot in it. My parents are sleeping on the pull out sofa and HATE it they say it sinks in, in one spot and want the Murphy bed back. The big tv is nice but I don't come to Disney to watch tv. The bed in the bedroom is bigger and comfy I agree with the green swirly couch pattern feels like it doesn't really fit in...

Howdy - just wanted to give a quick review (sorry, no pictures, since I find the video to be an excellent presentation :))...

We checked out of an 11 night stay in a newly refurbished 2300 cabin last week - first guests in, as the loop had just opened. Overall, it was very, very nice. Sleeping on the new comfy queen in the bedroom was :cloud9:. The mattress is a huge upgrade; much thicker and hotel-like than before (it is indeed a queen as I checked the bed label and there are fresh drill holes in the wall indicating a change in headboard). The bed has been also raised where you can finally store luggage underneath - and you FW Cabinites know how awesome THAT is ;). Also appreciated the 4 hook coat-rack addition in the hallway. That will definitely save us money on Command Hook strips. Nice amount of storage in the living room with spacious clothing drawers; bathroom cabinets now have 4 good drawers for storage (2 are empty and 2 have extra towels); large tv (looks great, but barely watched it); wood or wood-like flooring throughout (shows a LOT of scuffs, but better than carpet); new fixtures/appliances/countertops...all very nice upgrades. Iron, ironing board, hallway mops/broom...all were new with packaging attached. Dishes/utensils looked to be original.

The only real issue we had was with the refrigerator. The freezer door kept barely popping open and staying open when closing the lower door of the refrigerator. We only caught it because water was leaking onto our fresh food. Not sure if the fridge was unlevel or what, but we had to close both doors tight at the same time.

Biggest con - we miss the murphy bed. It was effortless and clean to store out of the way. The sofa is comfy to sit on, but having to stack those huge sofa pillows every night with already limited space was a pain - and, again, they are quite bulky. Also, with the fabric being so light in color, all I see is dirty and gross over time with guests throwing them all over the floor :crazy2: (btw, we stacked them neatly).

And if you are a floor freak like me, no more vacuum available in the hall closet. Yeah, I kind of liked having that available.

Also, the cabinets are not tall enough to stand a box of cereal, so we had to lean a few things sideways. I know, we could've put them on the refrigerator or counters - but I like to put things away properly. :P

OH! And we saw our first - a family with 2 small dogs staying in the cabin next door. In a newly refurbished cabin, at that! I couldn't believe it. And they were letting the dogs run all over the loop without any leashes. Plus the lady parked her SUV in the next cabin over's parking space so she could allow her own parking pad to be displayed with halloween decorations. Not spying on her - just happened upon a scene of her speeding up the loop in her golf cart and profusely apologizing to the guests staying there, who had to park on the street. Glad they were only there for 2 nights. :sad2:

1. Rule Change, Sneaked in or that "other issue"?

2. Good thing she didn't get her car towed.

Yep. I'm good with service animals in vests or harnesses. However, this did not appear to be the case. More like locals with little lap dogs that figured, "meh, it's only 2 nights." One even came up on our deck. Cute, but stinks for us who pay out money for pet-sitters.

Does the onsite kennel keep animals overnight? If they do, I guess its possible the dogs could just be "visiting" for the day.

Saw today that the 2500 loop is currently under refurb and that the 2600 currently has no one staying in it but it is not blocked off. Took the golf cart around and it was strange seeing an empty loop.

We checked into a cabin in the 2100 loop today. Asked for 2100 hoping for a refurbished cabin. Nope. Same tired cabin design. Safe broken, fan in bathroom sounds like a squirrel caught in it, debris all over the deck.

Just found the note about the 2100 loop interesting. I will be disappointed if they get rid of those cabins. I liked that loop. We were right by the path to the comfort station. It was so easy to get the laundry done.

Thanks for sharing, G719. Indeed that would be interesting.

IIRC, 2100 was initially a camping loop when it was built (it was a later addition to the Fort in the mid-1970's along with 2000). Later it was converted to cabins when the other cabin loops came in. I noticed that 2000 and 2100 were on some of the old maps of the FW Railroad and that was before cabins so that's why I think that. Could be wrong though.

Interesting that they might consider taking out the higher revenue cabins for lower revenue campsites (even if they charged a premium for the pull through site). Of course the offset is in the occupancy rates. If a pull through site is half the cost of a cabin but occupied twice as much, no revenue is lost theoretically (save on Mousekeeping, maintenance, etc. too). And it wouldn't be a 1:1 replacement either necessarily.

You know how some of the WDW Deluxe resorts have had their hotel rooms converted to DVC? This could be the start of a new experiment. Although if there were any loops converted to pull throughs I would have picked an existing camping loop and not a cabin loop (unless the economics dictate it).

I'm gonna make a run to the store and stock up on popcorn, just in case. popcorn::

PS - that 2100 was indeed a camping loop might explain why that Comfort Station is between it and 1100. It's very reasonable to think that CS served 2 camping loops when it was initially built.

So do you think the cabins are doable for 4 adults and 2 kids without being horribly cramped? We rented an RV last fall and had my parents stay with us and it was super tight in the fifth wheel, mainly the sleeping arrangements. I would love to go back to the fort with them, and it seems the cabins are almost t he same price as renting a big enough RV. Now with the 2 queen beds I am thinking it may be a better option. We would only be staying 3 nights.

Love the remodeled bedroom & kitchen in the pics. The living room curtains & sofa upholstery look out of place in a cabin, though.
