I am just so fustrated right now with this contractor our insurance company uses. I've had a migraine since saturday and now I am getting sick because I am stressing.

#1 - for the last 2 weeks, we had noticed that the electricity would have been off during the day. We figured, that the contractor was turning it off while working and back on when they were done. Thursday of last week, we had the cuircit breaker for the master bathroom/bedroom pop twice on us. Friday nothing. Saturday 3 times and Sunday 2 times. Monday night from 11 pm until 8 am Tuesday morning, the breaker popped over 50 times - we stopped counting in the 4 a.m. time range.

Called the contractor and the insurance co. The contractor begrudgingly said he would look at it, but they wouldn't have done anything to cause it. We have lived in this house for 13 years and the only time we have an issue with breakers popping is after you start working in my house, and is only happening in the area of the house you are working in. WHATEVER!!!! The insurance co, said they will talk to the contractors and get it taken care of.

Yesterday, the guy looked and looked couldn't see that there is a reason for the breaker to pop, but they would put a new one in. Put it in around noon yesterday. All last night did just fine. Standing there brushing my teeth at 7 a.m. this moring and pop went the breaker. UGH!!!!!!!!!! Called the contractor and he is going to have an electrician come out and look at it.

#2 - As much as we hate it, we can't afford to do anything but have carpet in the bathroom. So, last Thursday they lay the new pad and carpet. Friday they finish putting in the vanity set and hook the toilet back up. Tell us, we are good to use them. So we do. Saturday morning, I have some toilet cleaner tablets that I go to put in and as I am standing there, it feels like my sock is getting wet. I moved my foot further back and step right in the middle of a soaking wet spot. The toilet is leaking.

I called the contractor and left him a message that they need to come out first thing on Monday morning. When DH got home from class, he looked at it and can see where it is leaking from. He is ticked beyond words.

Monday they come out and fix the toilet issue and dry out the carpet.

The shower was still pretty much a mess and I didn't get it all cleaned until Monday night - I didn't want to run any more water in the bathroom then needed. So last night, DH takes a shower after he gets home. DS16 isn't feeling so great and wants to take a shower. DD is already in the other bathroom taking a bath. I tell DS go ahead and take one in my bathroom. About an hour after he is done, I go in to use the toilet. The toilet sits between the wall of the bathroom and the shower. I sit down and the carpet on the side closet to the shower feels damp. I lean down and sure enough, coming from the wall towards the toilet is a big ol wet area.

And before someone asks, no it could not have come from the shower doors not being shut. It was completely on the other side of the wall. The carpet that runs along the front of the shower was totally dry.

So after telling the contractor about the breaker, I tell him about wet carpet issue #2. He chuckles and says he doesn't know why we are having so many issue with this project. Normally everything is smooth sailing. He will have them out to look at the water issue.

#3+ - we haven't even gotten to these with them yet. They are the small things, but with the rest of the issues, they are all just becoming one big issue and I just want the contractor out of my house. Trim that doesn't line up. Screws that aren't flush with the wall. A mirror that wobbles when you touch it. The storage shelves aren't level. The heat register isn't screwed back down.

Right now, about the only thing that I can say positive about them, is the hole they made in the utility room wall that is a shared wall with the bathroom was fixed. Other than that, like I told the insurance company yesterday, if we ever have a damage claim again, this contracter will NOT be allowed to handle that claim.

Sorry you're dealing with all this! Home renovations/repairs are stressful under the best conditions. Hopefully all your issues are fixed up soon and you can get back to your normal routine!

Can you call the insurance company and ask them to send you another contractor? Alternately, ask your insurance to cut you a check and you will hire your own contractor.

I'd be raising holy hell with both the contractor and the insurance company. This is totally not acceptable. The insurance company's job is to make you whole after a loss (up to your policy limit of course) and this is clearly NOT happening.

I'm usually a pretty easy going person. Things happen, it's not always someone's fault so I'm good about giving 2nd chances for a company to make things right. You've long ago passed that point, in your shoes someone (several someone's really) would be getting their ear screamed off right about now.

I'm sorry you're going through this. Since work has already started I doubt the insurance company would be able to write you a check so you could hire your own contractor, but I'd be on the phone with them to see if they can replace him. Water damage is nothing to sneeze at, if they leave a slow leak after they are done working, it could be months or years before you notice it, and by then the damage could be very, very bad. Rotted wood, black mold, damaged drywall, the list is almost endless. And electrical problems are just scarey!
