Long time lurker, seldom poster. Just added a reminder to my calendar to book the Fort 499 days out!! We are planning to do a "post Thanksgiving week" trip 2019, celebrating our daughter's 5th birthday. Driving down from Grand Rapids, MI. Undetermined if we will bring our 25' travel trailer with us, or do the cabins, but who cares...WE WILL BE AT THE FORT!! This past fall for my son's 5th birthday we came down to WDW and stayed at Shades of Green. While a BEAUTIFUL resort, I missed my home of so many yearly trips (1997-2001, plus a couple others). So back we shall come. :) Just had to share my excitement! Any "new" things I should keep my eyes out for since 2001? I saw the revamped the cabins, which is exciting. Kiddos will be 5 and 8 by then.

Well post more often PLEASE, CamperMomma. If it's not too much more of a cost differential, bring the trailer to the Fort. I have memories of camping at the Fort as a kid and carried that experience forward to my children. And while the cabins are great, I feel like you get more of the outdoor Fort experience at a campsite.

Lots has changed since 2001. There are the big Premium campsites now (lots of concrete) and they infilled the portion of the Meadow between the Meadow Trading Post and loop 600 by the pond with more campsites so now there are trailers REALLY close to the TP (I'm still getting over that as you can tell). But the same old Fort magic is still there.

Oh and they finally got WIFI in the campsites.

I have a 499 day reminder on my calendar also, but I think by the time arrives next year will be open already. Will just have to watch both and see.

Thanks!! I'll have to price it out. With my husbands 35% military discount on cabins (assuming that sticks for a few years), it may be close to the extra gas hauling it down, vs driving down in our mini van and doing a cabin. We didn't make it over to FW last fall on our WDW trip, and I'm really regretting it. Soon enough though!

Hard to argue with a 35% discount - that certainly affects the economics of the decision.

Whatever works out, at least you'll be at the Fort. :dogdance:

Planning on making a trip that same time, but may move it up a year...hopefully

Been away too long here too and just added our 499 day reminder as well. Second time at the fort and already daydreaming.

I have seen and heard conflicting information. Is the 499 days from your check-in or check-out date. Last year WDW reservations said it was from check-out but I thought in the past it was from check-in. Anyone know for sure????

Yes. 499 days includes the last night you stay at the Fort. Or 500 days till checkout. In other words, your entire stay has to be within the 500 day window IIRC.

PS - here is a link where i posted on 6/21/16 that the 2017 rates were finally available on-line and rates were available until November 4th, 2017. So whether it's 499 or 500 I believe your reservation has to "fit" completely within the window. See post #7.

PPS - and I'm guilty of misstating it at times.
