My little November day-trip scrunched at the end of another trip seems to be happening. I'm looking at airfares and am trying to work out the best overall deal.

I don't want to save money on airfare but then have scads of money go towards getting to the airport! Not like I did when we flew into Ontario airport.

So what's the recent cab fare from the gates of DLR to Long Beach airport? And would I need to call a company or just snag one of the cabs that hangs out in front there?

Thanks!

Oh! And is it more or less than the usual cab fare to SNA?

(getting to DLR is going to be from Amtrak, so that's figured out already)

We used a car service in April ~ his name is Ron, his business card says VIP Service (Kim Sontha Transportation). The number is 562-396-8106 (company number) OR the number where he has always answered is 562-895-6713. He picked us up @ LGB in a Lexus SUV and brought us back to LGB in a Toyota Highlander, the cost was $45 each way.

This is great info! We are using Long Beach for the first time next month.

When we went in May, we just grabbed one of the cabs that was waiting at the airport. It was $40.00 to DLR. On the way back to the airport we took a town car and it was $55.00. We checked several options for the ride back and they were all more than the $40.00 ride we got to DLR. It's about a 30 minute ride.

awsome I needed that info too, going to try to get a fam member to pick us up but that may be more hassle then its worth.

Thanks for the info!

These 40+ numbers are not making me happy. It's just me! Hmm.....

Molly, if you fly out of SNA, why can't you take the DL Express to the airport for like $15? It would even prolong your Disney experience just that little bit longer!!

Which day are you going? My husband has given me permission to look into going for one night on my own so mommy can have a break ;)

And I would guess 45 is average for one person.

I'm going on November 5th! The more the merrier!!! I'll be coming up from San Diego in the morning on the Surfliner train, then leaving as late as possible for a flight that leaves as late as possible. :)

Our hubbies are absolute sweethearts, aren't they? Mine is supporting my going on a 5 day trip with old friends, while he has to take some days off to hang with our boy! Good men, good men... Of course, hubby and son are going to be so ridiculously bonded when I come back, they will ignore me for a week, ha ha.

So you will be there only on the 5th? My dh is a sweetheart but I kinda tricked him into it :rotfl: He will be there for a meeting on nov 5th and I told him to stay the night and do disneyland the next day and then come home....that way I can go on my own later. I was thinking about going down with him on the 5th though if I can get enough money together in time. Otherwise it will be later that month/early december :)

Molly,
I called a cab company that was on the LGB airport website. They said there is a flat cab fee to any DL hotel of $45. But it is metered going back. If you hit traffic or construction, you could really rack up some $$$.
We have 4 people and we want to go straight to our hotel so the DL express is not an option
I like the idea of the arranged car. We did that last year at WDW both ways. Our fare included one stop at a grocery store which was awesome

ballarinamom, thanks for the info!

Krissy Marissy, yep, only the 5th. I'm in San Diego from the 1st (am hoping my traveling companions decide that they want to go to DL/DCA on the 2nd since they are already talking about it!) through the 4th. That night is the Madonna concert, and then when everyone else catches early morning flights, I'm going to the Amtrak station. :)

So if you're there on the 5th, let me know! If you have to go later on, have a GREAT solo trip. They are very fun, being able to go as fast or slow as you want, eat what you want when you want, etc. And it makes you miss your family, which a trip WITH family won't do! :rotfl:

:lmao: Very true! The "I can't wait to get home" thought often crosses your mind then! But family trips are good too!

So far the plan is this...DH wants me to come down with him. So we'll just be there for one night, nov 5th. I will hopefully be in the park before noon and hang out until he gets there around five or six, after his meeting. So I guess I kinda get a solo trip and a non solo trip at the same time :) If it all works out I will be there the same day! And I hope your friends decide to go there as well...how fun! And a madonna concert? I'm jealous!

Yep, Madonna. Although I was a fan I never wanted to see her in concert, but my friend has decided that M is touring in honor of my friend's 40th birthday (today! and today is my 39th b'day as well!) so wrangled a bunch of us to go. :)

Found a good fare (89.50 total) to Seattle out of LAX late at night on the 5th, so I'm taking the advice of another poster here and will be taking Disneyland Express. I still won't get to see closing of Disneyland, b/c I'll have to be on the bus leaving DLH at 8 as it closes that day, but that's OK. I would have preferred to leave from SNA but those flights all leave SO early!

And as an amusing aside, although I only really considered Virgin America (how I'm getting to San Diego), Southwest, Alaska (who I'm using), and took a peek at Jet Blue, I also looked, just to be thorough, at Continental and USAir. Ha ha ha! Both of the latter leave from the LA area then go to HOUSTON, then up and over to Seattle. I don't recall the price on USAir, but with Continental it was $998! One way!!!!! Crazy. Why not just say "um, no, try another airline" if they don't have a normal flight, ya know?

Thanks to all who helped!

Molly,
I know what you mean about those crazy flights. I looked at one that went from San Antonio to Chicago THEN SNA!! A regular 4-5 hour trip became a 9 1/2 hour trip!! Craziness!

and today is my 39th b'day as well!

Happy Birthday!!! :cheer2:

Airfare can be so spendy! And yes, sna doesn't have very late flights...you are lucky to find one that leaves around 8 pm. I guess I will take a peak at LAX since we usually only fly out of sna. But this is a short trip so the more DL time the better :)
