Please take the time today to honour our veterans and soldiers. My FIL was one of them and I will be honouring him today as well.

Thank you.

Here Here!

My grandfather is a WWII vet and today is his day.

Will be taking my niece down to the memorial park. She is 9 years old and know its something she will appreciate.

I always tell our 3 year old - we don't just remember Great Grandpa on Rememberance Day. We remember the sacrifices he and ALL other veterans and soliders make everyday.

My father asked me yesterday if the schools had the day off today and they don't. He seemed disappointed but I disagree. My high school students need to see the assemblies and hear from the veterans since it seems so far removed from their every day lives.
A few years ago I took 60 music students to Europe and one of our stops was Verdun, France. The Great War really hit home when they saw the crosses row on row, acre upon acre. When they walked through the cemetary they realized the soldiers who gave their lives were the same age as them: 17, 18, 19 years old. I still cry remembering how it moved them and how powerful the music we sang became after that.

Least we forget.

I was watching the Remembrance Day ceremony on tv. But I was most impressed with DH's place of work. He works as a Safety Advisor in Foster Creek, AB, just north of Cold Lake, where EnCana is building a gas plant. They made everyone stop and they read In Flanders Fields over the loudspeakers and then observed a minute of silence. Usually he has had to force the issue even if he was the only one who stopped.

Thank you for this.. to remind him about the every day soldier. I am a Military wife and I find so many people forget the now and while yes we do remember and respect the past there are so many currently serving and so many currently lost.

My ds9, knows all about Remembrance Day, and he wears his poppy with great pride, as do his father and I.
I must say, one Sunday in September we were driving up to Richmond Hill and a fallen soldier was being brought home. We were on the DVP, just north of Eglinton/lawrence when the convey passed. I explained to my son what was going on, and then said a prayer for the family.
Seeing something like that certainly put a lump in my throat, and a tear in my eye.
