As I'm sitting here reading && responding to posts, I'm getting more && more excited about my trip in March. Like I've posted before, it isn't MY first time going, I've gone more times than I can count..but it's my DS3 first time. Im going to see DL in a totally different pair of eyes with a new perspective of it. I will probably cry when I see the excitment and amazement in his eyes. :goodvibes So that's my new topic for this thread..

Does everyone remember their FiRST time going to DL?! && if so, how bout some details ::yes:: It's always nice to remember back.

I think I was about 7 and I do remember swimming at the DL Hotel and riding the monorail. I also remember the People Movers near Space Mountain-I loved those! I don't remember much about the rides but did bring home a Donald Duck souvenier. I think my sister still has it (somehow she got most of our childhood stuff)

My best vivid memory as a child, I think, was when I was 5 years old. The only thing that sticks out to me was going down MS towards the castle with my family. The shop-lined street and just all the colors really brings back a lot for me. :)

My first trip was in April 79, at age 5. We stayed at a KOA down the street. My most profound memory was some restaurant back in Bear Country - I could swear it was AT the Bear Country Jamboree but I emailed the guy at yesterland and he said there was no restaurant in there, but I think it was called the Mile Long Bar right next to it. I remember having a sandwich, chips and root beer. That was HUGE because my mom never let me have soda. Now root beer ALWAYS = Disney happy memories to me. :)

I don't remember many rides except the sky buckets, dumbo and small world (my favorite back then). I do remember sitting outside the Haunted Mansion being afraid for my brother. I also remember the ride where they "shrunk" you down and I was also afraid of that ride because I was afraid I wouldn't be returned to normal size. I remember the clothes my mom made for me to wear there :confused3 and I remember the tickets we had to wear on our clothes that were the full day tickets instead of the single ride tickets.

Now I'm just like an addict trying to have my first fix all over again :smokin: hehe

My first trip was in 1987, back when I was 9 years old. The family followed my Dad to LA on a business trip, and we spent 1 day at Disneyland. I recall that we were able to ride most of the big rides (I even went on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, but didn't go on Space Mountain, although my 7-year old brother did go on that.) My sister freaked out on Haunted Mansion, and I think I might have freaked out on the Rocket Jets (my brother, who was clearly more adventurous than I was at the time, had the controls, and wanted to go really high.) I somehow ended up being the only one to go on Star Tours in the family (which was new at the time, and I had to wait 45 minutes, which was about the only ride I waited any significant amount of time for that day) and got a T-shirt from that, which was lost ages ago (and wouldn't fit anyway.) There were several ride closures that we missed though (Autopia, Matterhorn and the Submarines were all down) but we still got most of the big rides. Also, I remember that Splash Mountain was under construction at that time as well.

Oddly enough, my vague recollections of the 1987 trip seemed to do more to mess me up than to aid me when I went on my second trip in 2006.

Oh, believe me, I've been preparing myself:sad2: I know I'ma cry like a baby. I will for sure have to post our experience when we get back.

My first trip to DL was in 1976. I loved seeing the characters. There were no character meet spots, no autograph books, no staged photo ops. Instead they would just appear and wander about the park, giving hugs and handshakes. My parents have pictures (from a distance) of me and at least 10 other kids we didn't know!! That's just the way it worked back then.

It's hard for me to pinpoint exact memories from my first trip. I was 4 on that one. I do however have pictures from that trip so it's cool to see the park in 1980 and compare against our visit in 07 which was my DS's first trip.

'84 is easier for me to remember. I have fond memories of America Sings, Adventure through Innerspace, Mission to Mars, Country Bears, The Peoplemover, Skyway, etc...

I have to say that for the most part, all my memories from the 80s kinda blend together. There are some expections. I can remember When Star Tours and Splash Mtn opened. I remember seeing the new queue and bridge for Pirates being built. I was there the year HM had a guy walking around in a suit of armor scaring people.

All good memories :)

That's funny that you mention having to share the characters with people you didn't know because I was just recently looking at some pics of me at DL around 1980 and what struck me most about them was that the character pictures have strangers in them! There I am with Mickey and some other kid and Mickey is hugging us both at the same time. There's also one of me with Chip (or Dale?) and another with Tigger where I'm the one getting a hug from the character but other kids are right there running up to them and trying to get their attention, touching them, etc. Things sure have changed.
