Last year, I posted some of the below along with a few other things. I thought these were poignant and relative to that which we remember this weekend, and always. JMO. Again, another year passes, we recall, we remember, we mourn, we memorialize, we look forward. If you don't like it or think it is stupid, please use the back button. I don't.

One

As the soot and dirt and ash rained down,
We became one color.

As we carried each other down the
stairs of the burning building,
We became one class.

As we lit candles of waiting and hope,
We became one generation.

As the firefighters and police officers
fought their way into the inferno,
We became one gender.

As we fell to our knees
in prayer for strength,
We became one faith.

As we whispered or shouted
words of encouragement,
We spoke one language.

As we gave our blood in lines a mile long,
We became one body.

As we mourned together the great loss,
We became one family.

As we cried tears of grief and loss,
We became one soul.

As we retell with pride of
the sacrifice of heroes,
We become one people.

We are:
One color
One class
One generation
One gender
One faith
One language
One body
One family
One soul
One people

We are The Power of One.
We are United.
We are America.

Last year, I came across this wonderful piece (IMO) which was created in the
days immediately following the attacks three years ago. It is a compilation of
remembrance, care concern, hope. It is by Kyle Vincent, composer/musician. He
wrote, on 9/25/01.....

Friends,

In my life, whenever times were dark, I turned to music. It has saved me more
times than I can count. I owe it big time. Inspiration and emotion invite songs
and melodies into the songwriter's head, and then it is up to us to create
music's gift.

It is with this sentiment that this song came to me. I began writing it
Wednesday, the day after our nation's darkest moment. With the help of some
talented and generous spirits we were able to finish it and now give it to all
of you.

It is called "5000 Heroes". You may download it for free off the
website, or just listen to it, if you'd like. Our friends at radio b107.3 in
Lincoln, Nebraska, have put monumental effort into pulling together a
compilation CD featuring the song. All services and performances have been
donated, enabling us to pledge 100% of sales proceeds to the Families of Freedom
Scholarship Fund*.

I'm not an EMT or a fireman. I'm not a school teacher. I'm not a politician or a
wealthy philanthropist. I'm no Michael Jackson, and this is not "We Are The
World". I'm no hero. This is just a songwriter doing his part--all I can
do. I have no choice. The world turns to comedians at a time like this to help
us forget, or maybe more importantly to help us to remember how it is to laugh.
It is my place on this earth to share music, and so I share this song with all
of you.

Maybe it will help someone. I know it has helped me.

Together we're strong.

Tuesday morning Without warning Our world will never Be the same

Crying eyes Filled the skies Our brothers and sisters Were taken away

What kind of hatred Could lead someone to this? We need to come together To find
out what it is, 'cause

Peace on Earth Good will toward man Should mean the same In every land And we
need every one of us To survive Together we're strong Apart we'll fall And if
all the world heeded that call 5000 heroes Would be alive

So today Smile and say Hello stranger I'm your friend Take his hand Understand
So this can never Happen again

The truth we'll find is How precious life is One moment they were with us And
now they're gone

To watch their children grow Or see a dream come true Or someday fall in love
Under a summer moon

Tuesday morning Without warning Our world will never Be the same 5000 heroes And
each one had a name.

His beautiful piece is here, 5,000 Heroes. It is VERY large, over 5 megs, takes a bit to load, even
DSL and cable, dialup, very long, but worth it.

The final death toll from 9/11, would appear to currently be at 3,026, from what
I have seen, WTC, the Pentagon, Pennsylvania and all the planes. Number injured
over 3,000. We must always remember. We are family.

Very beautiful Dan, we can never forget this day. Thank you very much.

That was beautiful. I've got tears in my eyes just remembering that fateful day and the sad months and years that have followed. :sad1:

Such a beautiful post Dan. I had never read that poem "One" before. So sad and so true.:(

I do have to make a final comment here................I sincerely hope that these boards are not turning into a place that you really NEED to warn "others" that the post is of a patriotic nature. It shouldn't matter that this horrific day happened to America...........what SHOULD matter is that it happened to the human race, something we are all a part of. I would sincerely hope that all people will respect the loss that mankind has experienced and show compassion to all.

who helped unfurl the flag @ the Pentagon!

Our fire station helped fight that awful fire that day & helped with the clean up days after.

Warning? Patriotic? I'm confused. I'm pretty sure 99.99999% of us are quite patriotic.

Is that like "God bless most of you"

 Thanks Dan, what a beautiful poem. And many hugs to all as we remember this very sad day. :grouphug:  :grouphug:
