Remembering extinct foods

Here in PA they still sell Five Alive and Tato skins. :)
And for the person that loved the Taco Bell doritos.

Doritos now makes Taco's at midnight or something like that flavored ones. IDK if they taste like the taco bell ones or not, cuz I never had either.

Ah! Jealous about the Tato Skins...I haven't had any of those since the 80s. My brother and I used to wander around the house singing the jingle from the commercial. :)

I actually tried the Tacos at Midnight flavor thinking that they might resemble the Taco Supreme Doritos...sadly, they're not even close. :sad2:

I have to avoid buying the Tacos at Midnight chips because I can't stay out of them. I never had the Taco Supreme flavor though and it sounds like that's a good thing! ;)

I grew up in PA then moved to NH. In PA, there's a chip manufacturer named Herr's and they make the BEST salt and vinegar chips. None of the brands I can get here hold up. So, usually on my birthday, a friend of mine still in PA ships me a bag of them.
We have them in CT I believe. I know that I have seen Herr's in a lot of the stores, not to sure about the flavor though.
I would love to have the cinnamon version of S. W. Graham cereal again.
What is S.W.?

This is a little off topic, but the cow pies made me think of this. Moon Pies just started making chocolate/peanut butter moon pies. Now, the secret is to refrigerate them before eating. Be forewarned - you won't be able to stop at one. You can find them at Cracker Barrel.

And now back to our original topic...
OMG, why did you have to tell me that? :lovestruc
I hated slo pokes. My nightmares about them resolve around me trying to remove their glue like substance from various corners of my mouth.
Oh, I know!! :rotfl: The worst was when you actually injured your tongue!!!:lmao:
Does anyone else remember Coco Wheats? It was like chocolate cream of wheat. I would POUR the sugar on that stuff. Yummy!
I never put sugar on cereal when I was young, my parents didn't either so I didn't even know that people did that.

Imagine my utter surprise when, in 3rd grade and at a sleepover, I saw a friend putting it on her cereal. Of course I had to try it. WOW!!! I loved it. I know, imagine that. :rolleyes1:rotfl2: Of course, I couldn't do it at home. My mother would have killed me.

I also loved those Hostess fried pies - chocolate, of course.
Oh, we still have those around here.

I miss those puddings that came in the little metal container. I wanna say Hunts, but I'm not sure. Licking every bit of chocolate off the lid, even at the risk of tetanus. It just tasted better then the ones in the plastic containers.

Also, my sister and I used to get these frozen subs. This was in Oregon in the late 70's and early 80's. You put them in the oven and they baked, then you spread the mayo and mustard on the hot bread and it just tasted so good. Not sure what it was about it that made it perfect. We always got these when my parents went out for the night.

Loved it when my grandparents came up to visit or we went to their house. She would always let us buy some sugary cereal. I always got cookie crisp. Do they make that anymore? It was like dessert for breakfast. Is there anything better then that? :confused3

I just have to interject for a sec. On the subject of Tab, OMG, that is the nastiest concoction put on this planet. I'm convinced if you can drink Tab, you can eat cow patties. Please continue.;)

TAB is all that I drink! In fact, I have to carry it with me when travelling!!

Peanut Butter Boppers. These consisted of peanut butter like the kind inside a Reese's PB Cup, shaped into a log and coated with chocolate chips and crisped rice. Yum.
I totally forgot about those and had to go look them up. I used to love those and not I really, really miss them.
:sad1:

I can't for the life of me find....Adolph's MEAT marinade. It came in a little yellow packet. Was always by the meat case and sometimes with the other packet gravies. That stuff made your meat SO tender and SO tasty. But can't find it anywhere.
It is made by Lawry’s. According to this website, you can order it directly from them.

I really miss the Taco Doritos. Not the Taco Bell kind...... just plain taco, they were in an orange bag and they were one of the first few flavors, before cool ranch even. They were soooo yummy!!

Oh, I loved those. The stuff they have now, the Zesty Taco and the After Midnight ones don't taste the same.

Also, they used to make a taco flavor for fritos that was so good.

We only have about one month more until Mallomars go off the shelves for six months. New Yorkers will know what these cookies are. They are a chocolate covered marshmallow cookie and oh so good. For some reason, they are only produced from October through March each year.

Could it have something to do with the heat in the summer months? :confused3 Maybe the chocolate and marshmallows don't do well past a certain temperature.

I miss the cherry muffin mix that was made by Betty Crocker?? It was muffin mix that came with a can of cherries. Sooooo good!

Pudding Pops
Tato Skins
Squeezits
McRib
Slushpuppies
Five Alive (I used to get it in Canada)
New Coke (only to remember why I hated it)
Welch's grape juice in the tiny single serving bottles that came in the vending machine
those brownies that came with the cardboard pan and everything, you just mixed it togther and microwaved it (I think?) Might have been Duncan Hines
The PowerAde they had in Canada that was clear and tasted like Grape and Strawberry Nerds mixed together

I know there's other stuff, but I can't think of it right now.

Ah yes, Crystal Pepsi. While I consider myself to have an unhealthy love of all things Pepsi, I never could get the allure of that stuff. I bought some for the novelty factor, but that was it.

I love pepsi, especially throwback but not even I could find any love for Crystal Pepsi. That stuff was weird!

I found Five Alive at the commissary and almost bought some for my kids. I grew up on it and minute maid juice boxes (those are still around everywhere though.)

Hostess fruit pies are great. Slush puppies :cloud9:

Anyone remember that icecream that was supposed to be like softserve? They came in individual (but a box of them) paper cones and had a plastic cap on top that you queezed the icecream through. You had to let them sit for a few minutes and soften before squeezing them. I loved the vaniall and caramel.

Flavor Rush sour cream and onion chips.

Pudding in a can! That was probably the best part of camping when I was young. To the poster who mentioned it, I think we had ones by DelmOnte but it might have been Hunts. I'm probably thinking del monte becuase of canned fruit cups.

Hostess pudding pies; TMNT green oze ones :)

Lawry's Taco Casseol in a box

Stouffers stuffing kit for baking with the chicken. The Betty Crocker version just isn't as good.

Swirrled lifesavers lollipops

PB Max candybar

For whoever it was that mentioned Junket, they still have it in stores around here. It's something I've doubtlessly walked past 47,000 times and never noticed, but tonight I saw it out of the corner of my eye and was like, "Holy crap, Junket!" I think I scared the man next to me in the frozen-foods aisle, but that'll happen sometimes.

Just remembered another one, though it's a beverage: Gatorade Fierce Lime. There aren't NEARLY enough lime-flavored things out there anymore.

I was just looking through a thread just like this one that I started like 3 years ago and it reminded me of another one--there was this microwave macaroni and cheese that was around ca. 1991 (freshman year in college) and it was the single best mac 'n' cheese I have ever had in my life. EVER. All I remember about it is that the packaging was red and white and the little rectangular tray in which you cooked it was white. I used to have my mom send it to me at school constantly, that and Pop Qwiz. Does anyone else remember this stuff?

ETA: Also Campbell's Meatball Alphabet soup, and Bacon & Tomato salad dressing. I can't remember who made the latter but I can still taste it like I just had it yesterday! Oh, and the Great Starts microwaveable frozen breakfast entrees, especially the French toast and pancake ones; both came with sausage that was AWESOME.

Great thread! The extinct foods that I miss the most have to be:

1. Tuna Pot-pies
2. McDonalds and the fried pies.
3. McDonalds again with the fried pizzas. Like little pizza pockets. We NEVER got McDonalds when I was a kid. My parents were all about the garden and natural food, so when we would go camping we loved the McDonalds. When we were out on the lake we could go there and dock and have lunch.
4. Jello Pudding Pops

Yes, that is exactly what the guy at the store told me. They don't ship them when it's warm.
