We just got back from an overnight stay at the Pop Century and got to thinking about old WDW nostalgia with a remember when....

I remember when....they had paper straws at WDW (as a kid--it was my personal goal to make those suckers deteriorate by the time I finished my drink).

LOL! I had forgotton about those! I remember using them when I went as a kid to WDW with my family. They were so gross. Completely ruined the taste of the drinks. I was so glad to see those gone when I returned as an adult.:Pinkbounc

WDW was simply the Magic Kingdom...

They used E- tickets...

Getting to the Magic Kingdom you passed by all the farms and cowfields that made up the town of Kissimee...

Remember when they still had "Mr. Toad's Wild Ride"?

*sigh* I still miss that ride :(

I remember E tickets too:)

You had a coupon book of lettered tickets to get on the rides.

You could combine tickets to get on a E ticket ride.

This was in 1978.

I am glad that they don't do that anymore:)

Did not have much of a resort choice either. Contemporary or Polynesian. That was it. We did visit Fort Wilderness and River Country on that trip.

I didn't know you could combine tickets to make an E ticket!!! Here I always had all those A,B,C tickets left over.

Then when we had the "Club" through my DH employment, they were all E tickets.

Good ole River Country :) Amazing how we were 'wowed' by those 'state of the art' attractions of the good old days :)

I can also remember people giving away the tix they didn't use for the less popular stuff. If you were trying to come up with the right combination for a ride, but didn't have it- someone would usually come along and offer to give you what you needed :) How times have changed...

I think my mother still has all the leftover A, B and C tickets. I can remember my parent buying more "E" tickets everytime we went.

I remember the enterance road seemed to go on forever in nothing but trees. Us adults were asking how much longer. LOL

I remember that "long" car ride off of I-4 a little bit on 192 and then onto the "Disney" road.

Yes paper straws--I guess one of Disney's attempts at not adding to the landfills--I am guessing the straws were very biodegradable. They couldn't even make it to the trash can in one piece.

Hey anyone remember the brown and orange shopping bags from the early 80s and then the pink and teal bags from the early 90s?

And Space Mountain--when you and your friend, relative (or anyone lucky enough to ride with a stranger) sat in between your legs, or you in between their legs?

I remember when seeing the characters was just "luck". You never knew when one might happen to be around the next corner. Now it's all organized "meet and greet". I remember walking up Main Street and seeing Goofy to the left. Next thing I knew, a new Goofy was coming out on the right, suddenly spied a Goofy already there, and he did a quick retreat. Some lack of communication there! It was probably shortly after that (that was 1987) that they went to the more organized meet and greets. I also remember that back then, many of the characters in Epcot Future World were wearing silver lame capes. Looks so funny in the old pictures I have!

I remember when the only way to see a caracter was in a show or parade. Much better now. I remember when Spaceship Earth had lines that were always at 30 to 60 mins long in off season. Country Bear jamboree was sponsered by Pepsi and Frito Lay. The Pepsi was in a carton like a milk carton. The short wait was 2 shows.

I remember when you finally got to Disney World and tuned in the car radio to hear all about what was going on that day and how to get around. It made the unbearable wait to get to the Magic Kingdom worthwhile.
:earsboy:

I remember all those things listed but then again, I am older than the hills.

Not Disney but today I overheard two teens talking about how they remembered when candy bars were just 45 cents. So do I but that is almost a current event compared to my memory of 5 cent bars.

:rolleyes: :teeth: :hyper: ::yes::

I remember the first time we were there, it wasn't even a park yet. There was a building you went in and they told you about what was going to be built there. I remember my parents bought a book that had pictures and told all about what was coming. I sure wish I still had that book!!

I remember the planning catalogues--would read them hundreds of times--you could do a Premier Cruise--or do a package on Hotel Plaza Blvd...all arranged through Disney.

And how about those trailers they had at FW in the pre-cabin era.

MK used to be open until midnight every day of the summer.

POTC used to be a very popular ride and needed the ropes outside the entrance and they actually needed both sides to load boats. Even in late June it was at most a 10 minute wait.

The canoe ride around Tom Sawyer's Island.

Chuck

i remember how they used to check ur hand stamp when re-entering the park and your tickets had a stamp date on them.
