I miss driving down I5 and seeing the Matterhorn or the
Disneyland signs and getting SO excited. Now you can't even see it from the highway anymore and there are hardly any signs before you get right on it. That was such a build up. Then the big sign on Katella that was in the parking lot. Even when they changed it to the one with the digital stuff that told what was going on. I just loved it. I remember the big parking lot and the yellow trams. How excited you were and all the different sections, Pluto, Mickey, Goofy, trying to remember where you parked LOL.
I get ALL turned around now where our hotel was compared to where it is now.
Hotels that used to seem "right across the street" no longer seem that way to me but I guess they still are it is just there is no longer the big parking lot in between. Then I remember driving up to the front and seeing the floral mickey and the entrance for the first time and how exciting that was and back when you still had to buy your daily tickets and when they actually LOOKED like a ticket. I am sure my mom still has the ticket books somewhere (A, B, C etc) and I even have some from the 90's that say passport that look like a concert type ticket.
The things I remember from being a kid were the cavern ride that was there before big thunder. I only rode it once but I remember it had yellow train cars and had cactus and I remember rainbows inside the caves. (I was only 8 LOL) I remember being terrified of the haunted mansion! I remember LOVING Adventures through inner space and I too thought the people shrunk and loved watching them go through the microscope but upon looking back the rest of the ride (once you went inside) WAS pretty corny LOL. Remember the giant eyeball LOL. I HATED the people mover as a kid, thought it was boring, but now as an adult I miss it. Especially when my feet are tired LOL. I remember Tron AND when they had race cars.
I remember going through the matterhorn on the skybuckets AND on the ride and seeing the scaffolding before they added the snow and abomidable snowman.
I remember the speed boats although I only rode them once. Remember mission to mars and captain EO. Remember when Star Tours first opened and having to wait in line for 2 hours and how popular it was and thinking it was the coolest ride EVER! I remember America Sings (Where Innoventions is now) and I must say I loved it and miss it!
I think that is pretty much all of it. I have seen a lot come and go and there are some things I wish were still there for nostalgia's sake but I understand the need to bring new things. I look forward to new and better but I do like some of the old to stick around too!
