I'm sure this has been done before, but I'm new so just enlighten me.

I've been going to Disneyland pretty much yearly or more for the last 20 years. A lot has changed during that time (both good and bad)...

So let's recall some old favorite memories/things/rides/restaurants in or around Disneyland...

Well, I haven't been for a while so I'm sure I'll see more when I get there.

But for me - it's the classics like the submarine ride & Tom Sawyer's Island - yeah, kids today don't get it & you need to improve & grow w/ the times - but I was still a little sad. :sad1:

I know there were a lot of changes before I started going in the 80's. Wasn't there a Santa Claus or Xmas land or something? And the Matterhorn wasn't "snow" covered in the beginning? Things I've read that I can obviously no longer remember! :rolleyes1

I just found some old DL photos from when I was a kid..............the boat ride , kinda like autopia , that's long gone . Kinda miss that. I miss the monorail going directly to Dl Hotel , kinda nice for a meal out of the park. People mover was such a nice break, there is an online petition to bring that back. But , I must admit DL rocks and I love all the changes!

I am sad that DD6 will never get to see the TSI fort. I love DL now as much as I did when I was a kid. Even love the Pirate's Lair theming. I guess it's just such a great memory from my childhood that I wish DD could have experienced it, too.

There are a few fun memories I have.

I remember the fort at Tom Sawyer's Island, and going through the "secret tunnel" to the river. That was a thrill for a young child.

I can remember sunny summer days dancing the "friendship dance" with the Indians, Native Americans today. I used to look forward to that when I was young.

I remember dancing with Bert from Mary Poppins. I was convinced that it was the same Bert that was in the movies. I think I was 8 at the time.

Looking at the "eye" in Adventures Through Inner Space. I really believed that people shrunk down, and used to try & match the people going in the microscope & see if I could see them.

Mine Train Through Nature's Wonderland, and watching the painted mud pots boil, and the geyser, hoping it would blast off. Oh, and the mule pack. I used to love to ride those.

And I have to mention the Skyway at twilight. I loved riding in those when the lights were turning on at Disneyland. Just magical.

Ahhhh.... the innocence of youth.

Adventures through inner space was so cool.........I thought I was really shrinking too. Plus in mission to mars I remember beliving we actually went somewhere, if not space at least the ride moved! I hated the robot people at the entrance they were scary.

I remember on my first trip as a kid (25 years ago) getting to buy two old style flint lock cap guns from this little store in or around POTC.pirate: One was a small pistol and the other was a rifle. They were both made of wood and cast metal........unfortunately DL is WAY too PC now to sell anythng like that. I can even remember bringing them both on the airplane for the ride home. Can't even imagine that one now. Anyone else remember these? Better yet still have one?

Yes I was a proud owner of one and boy do I wish I still had it! DS8 would love it! I can still see the dispaly they were around pirate:

The Skyway, the rockets way up in the air, the pirate ship in fantasy land, Mr Lincoln, adventures through inner space, the country bear jamboree, the shooting gallery when it used real bb's, the fort on TSI, the wagon ride.... I am sure there are a few more, but I was pretty young

Oh yea, and the original PotC

I loved the Skyway and the People Mover. I have fond memories of riding those when my children were small.

I LOVED the Gummi Bears song that was attached to the motor boats. Another thing I miss that's personally significant was sticking my face into the porthole of the submarine and feeling the cool air being pumped in (great for hot days). Mission to Mars was why I picked Mars as the planet I wanted to do a report on in second grade. On of the two things I miss the most is the huge parking lot and taking the tram in. It never seemed like the trip was real until the tram got close enough for the front gates to be visible. Oh, and it was always funny seeing my mom try to remember where exactly we parked. The other thing I missed the most was the cheap candy in the general store on Main Street. It was the perfect place to get snacks before settling down to watch a parade. I miss the sugar sticks and quarter candies they sold. Now everything is darn expensive.

I miss eating Mickey Mouse Pancakes at the River Belle Terrace while listening to the Swiss Family Treehouse music. I still love to eat the pancakes, but I miss the music!

I remember the kid's menus were paper masks with characters' faces on them.

And I remember the Canadian saloon at the DL hotel. And the fancy restaurant on the water- what was it called? I think it is Hooke's Point now- not sure.

Looking at the "eye" in Adventures Through Inner Space. I really believed that people shrunk down, and used to try & match the people going in the microscope & see if I could see them.

I thought I was the only one who tried to match the people.

I remember the Tron section of People Mover. We used to also always take the monorail over to the hotel and have cocktails at the Neon Cactus.

I miss the swiss family robinson tree house!!!!!

That was the best.. Then just the plain mickey ear baloons.. Also the country bear jamboree...

Also the old autopia where you had to stand out in the sun to stand in line. ALso AMerica sings.. with the revolving theatre.

Ahhh the good old days..

This has really reminded meof so many lost memories, what a great thread! So many things I forgot about , no wonder I am still in love with DL and love sharing it with my kids!

the motor boats were great!!! I sure DON'T miss Captain EO!!! Remember that one?

I really miss the swiss family robinson tree house (tarzan isn't the same) and the country bear jamboree. I am still bitter that they got of rid of my bears (hints my user name). The only thing that keeps me sane is they still have it in disney world.

I saw Bert and mary Poppins when I went to DL in Novemeber!! i stopped to watch them sing a few songs fromt the movie. It was a really crowded sunday so maybe they only come out when there are large crowds?
