Remember when

Sorry to disrupt everyone’s’ day. And I do not want to taint the happiest place on earth. However, I would ask that everyone take a minute to remember 5 years ago.

Try to remember where you were when you heard that we had been attacked.
Try to remember what your first thoughts were. Were they about family, friends etc.
Try to remember what your life was like before the attacks of 9/11.
Try to remember what how free we were.
Please take a minute to remember the fireman, policeman, and rescue workers that lost their life’s trying to save lives.
Try to remember all of the people that were trapped in the towers that day.
Try to remember when the towers came crashing down.

A majority of this country has forgotten. It personally makes me sick. Right after the attacks, there were flags everywhere. People connected for a short period to remember what this country is all about. Now five years later, the flage are all but gone, and all we have are documentaries and short news clips to remind those that were not directly affected of that terrible event.

So take a minute is your busy lives to bow your head and think about that day. If you normally pray, pray for our country so that it might not happen again. Pray for those that lost a loved one. Pray for the service men and women that are over sees trying to prevent this from happening again. ( That is not a politcial statement. Those service men and woman don't get to chose whether they are there or not.) If you don't pray, then just think about the events, the fallen and those that lost a loved one.

If you know someone that lost a loved one, give them a hug. Offer to help. Talk to them.

If I have stirred up some feelings, too bad. I did not loose anyone on that day. However, being a 10 year vetran of the fire service, I live it everyday.

For those people on the board that lost a loved one or a friend. Please accept my deepest sympathy.

Love
Jason

Today I am trying hard to not focus on the unbelievable and indescribable pain that 9/11 caused and continues to cause. I am instead trying to focus on prayers that the differences we human beings use to fuel hate will gradually be replaced with a willingness by all peoples of all nations to value each other. It can start with me and my daily dealings with others, refusing to become angry over petty transgressions. God bless our world with the vision to build peace one interaction at a time, everyday.

Wow. Beautifully said. :grouphug:

I know that some of my friends and family have said that they are avoiding all the coverage on tv today because it's too emotional. I choose to be reminded and moved.

I've been watching the spouses, partners and significant others read the names of all those that died at the Towers. They started at 8:30 am and it's now noon and they are only on the "T's".

I remember thinking that day that those who did it and those who rejoiced over it have a special place reserved for them in H*&% and nothing I have heard or read in the last 5 years has changed that feeling. It's not about poverty or religion or any of the excuses people try to make-it was about hate-pure and simple. To kill people whose only crime was to live and work in an office building or book a flight to LA speaks to a mindset that is impossible to reconcile with rationality. Where I live, you either had someone in your immediate circle that was lost, or you are one step away from someone who did. Sometimes I think that other areas of the country have forgotten, I hope today is a reminder.

God bless those whose grief will never end, whose loss is unimaginable. God Bless those who still run toward that which makes the rest of us run away-the firefighters, the police and rescue workers, the soldiers-we are graced by your courage. God bless America today and every day.

I dont think that is an accurate statement. I dont think anyone has forgotten. Just because my flag is not out front everyday doesn't mean I have forgotten anything at all.

I was listening to a interview on the radio this morning. It was from a NY resident that has been on mission for the last few months. His mission is to paint a flag on the roof in each of the 50 states. He finished up the one in NY this week. He has 38 of them done. He said that he was so excited to go back to NY and tell everyone that people have not forgotten.

Thank you
Unfortunately I have to agree that people have forgotten. Maybe they haven't forgotten what happened that day but they've forgotten the extent of what happened that day, the emotions of that day, and how we came together as a nation that day
I'm in college and looking around no one would realize that today was anything but normal. It's scary. The flags are at half mast, which I personally really appreciate. I didn't appreciate the moron behind me that asked his buddy WHY are flags at half mast. And when his friend responded that maybe it's because it's 9/11, the original guy said "can't we just get over that already"? :guilty: Nope, there are a lot of us out there that can't. We live with very open wounds. I'd like to thank the College Republicans on this campus, who were handing out red white and blue ribbons this noon in the student union building. It was nice to realize that someone on this campus remembered, even if being handed one did make me teary. On the first anniversary nearly my entire high school was dressed in red, white and blue. I honestly did not see a single person other than myself on this campus dressed patriotically today. Sure, dressing patriotically is just a symbol, but really people, where's the spirit that was there 4 and 5 years ago?
