Remember When Castle was a Cake?

I loved it! I got to see it in Feb. of 1997. I was a senior in H.S. and our band was the band that started out the mainstreet parade oneday. I thought is was cool to be a part of the celebration with a cake castle and all.

I might be wrong, but wasn't the castle not completly enclosed by the cake cover-up? I seem to vaguely remember blue peeking out at certain places. Though like I said, I could be wrong.

That was made for the 2000 New Years Celebration. We were there. And then they dropped the 2000 after. You don't like it?
I know when they put the 2000 on Spaceship Earth. I just wish the whole hand thing had been temporary. I like things pure, the way they used to be (and I hate change, but I guess that's just part of getting older). Also wish those monoliths in front of Spaceship Earth would leave. It was so much nicer with just gardens and fountains.
And why does it need a sign telling people where they are? Does the Castle have a big sign on it saying it's the Magic Kingdom? Does the Tree of Life have a big Mickey Hand saying Animal Kingdom? And don't even get me started on that big hat (nice addition but wrong location).
Boring? I suppose it would be to some without it. I'm getting used to these changes and understand that it probably will never go back to the original, but I don't have to "like" it.

The front of the castle was pretty much all pink.......

but if I recall correctly the back was left alone & not decorated, so it looked the same as always.

I've been a Disney freak since 1989. I know about the changes!! But, like my husband tells me. They have to change!! The future back then is reality now!! I was P.O'ed about Spaceship Earth, Horizons, World of Motion, Journey into your Imagination!! But, they have to keep up with the times!!! That's how it is!!! Unfortunately!!!

We also loved the cake castle. It just shows that Disney isn't above having a little fun with their landmark institutions!!

Nausea...heartburn...indigestion...upset stomach...diarrhea? Hey! Pepto-Bismol!

We did not care for the castle, either.

We were there for our honeymoon - my first trip since childhood. While we thought the cake decoration was clever and all that...it was also pretty garish. I wasn't a fan. We did get a plate with the castle cake decoration on it to commemorate the event though.

But the 50th celebration decorations? A totally different story! It is just gorgeous! Very regal. Can't wait to see that again.

2) Just when the nightmares were ending.

LOLOL!!!

I liked the cake, but glad it was not permanent. It was our family's 1st trip and we've been back every year since. I have a T-shirt that has the pink castle on the front and the regular castle on the back. I will probably wear it next week at WDW! :cheer2:

The 25th anniversary was the first time my dh was there. We loved the castle cake and it all ways brings back memories of that trip.

OMG! The cake castle is one of my 11yr old dd's fondest memories of her first time to Disney World. She still talks about how she tried to taste the castle. Literally, she tried to taste the castle. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
She was so cute and sooooo caught up in the magic of Disney. I miss those years of innocence (sp?)

I'm really surpised so many people enjoyed the Castle cake. I thought it was one of those "What were they thinking" moments! It looked like a giant castle bounce to me. :rotfl:

We were on our honeymoon  and it was my husband's first real trip to Disney, he had been as a kid but didn't remember the trip at all.
WE LOVED the Cake Castle! We have a wonderful picture of it in a beautiful frame as a reminder of our trip :cloud9:
I wonder do the people who didn't like the cake castle, like the other "types" of things they have done to the castle since...Stitch's day, this Celebration theme? :confused3

I thought it was really cute. I love how they decorate the castle for the events as well. When I was there last they were removing the peices so it was only half pink. that didnt look great :p Cant wait to see the gold on it too now.

:maleficen WOAH this is cool. Never saw it before lol.

Didn't love the cake but thought Stich's day was great and the Castle looks beautiful now. Wish I could see it in person. :sad1:

Thanks for sharing! I'm glad I missed that one! It doesn't look cute and it doesn't look "sweet." I like the castle right now. And I like the simple castle too without any "dress."
