Remember When Castle was a Cake?

I'm working on a scrapbook for a friend and I have a picture of us in front of the castle when it was pink - I can't remember why. I can't remember when we went, so can anyone tell me when the castle was decorated like a big pink cake? It will help me figure out where to put the picture in the book.

Thanks!

It was in 1996 - 1997. They were celebrating 25 years of magic, since Magic Kingdom opened in 1971.

That was it exactly! It was pretty. It's decorated now with gold accents.

I was there early May of 98 and they was just finishing the repaintin of the castle got to say that castle cake was HORRIBILE glad I missed most of it.

Sorry you didn't enjoy it. The cake design actually went over the real castle.

i do remember that monstrosity. who's idea was that? what a disappointment to walk down mainstreet only to find a huge wad of cotton candy where the castle used to be.

It was horrible.

Maybe people that go often enjoyed the change, but imagine that poor little kid who had been waiting their whole life for their one chance to see this magical, iconic castle...and it looks like it was hosed down in Pepto Bismol.

Thankfully, Disney got enough complaints that they didn't try it again this time - personally, I wish they never touched the thing except to repaint it every so often (the same as it always has been, not some new color).

N.E.D.

I liked the Castel Cake too. It was nice as a change and it's also a good thing that they took it off again. Wish they would do the same for the Mickey Hand and Epcot sign on Spaceship Earth.

I did not appreciate the puffy castle either. It was DS's first trip, and he was a bit confused, being young, about where the castle was. Of course, that just meant we've needed to go back several times since to see the 'real' castle! I do very much like the gold accents they've got on it now, though. I saw them in March on a trip with my grandmother, but DS didn't go, so...Back to the world to see the castle again!

I didn't get to see it in person, but I love the photos I've seen of the castle cake. Wish I had been able to see it. And I love the way it is now, too!

Spaceship Earth would be BORING without the Mickey hand and Epcot on it. I miss the 2000, too.

It was my first visit back to the World (went once as a child) when they had the castle cake design. I really enjoyed it. I love the castle in its original form but it nice to have seen its birthday makeover as well. The pictures are great to look back on...something different that not everyone has.

That was made for the 2000 New Years Celebration. We were there. And then they dropped the 2000 after. You don't like it?

That was the year our family took it's first big trip to Disney and we loved the cake castle. I like that something new is thrown out there for the different celebrations.

We were there too and have those terrible castle pictures to prove it LOL
Hope the Happiest Celebration on Earth is still going on the end of Oct. 2006 so I can see how the dressed the castle!
