Remember the first timers Magic

I've been lurking on these boards for a long time, and this thread finally inspired me to want to post a reply. The first time for my whole family (DH, myself, and our three children-aged 7, 9, and 11 at the time) was in October 2001. I had been saving for 4 years and my husband didn't want to spend the money, didn't want to fly (especially the month after 9/11!!!), didn't want to go. I threatened to go without him, so he finally agreed to the trip. We hadn't been there more than a couple of days and he was talking to me about how we could increase the amount I'd been setting aside so that we could go back as soon as possible. He was totally hooked, and it's a good thing because so was I. We're going back in July 2007 for our fourth trip. I don't have childhood memories of WDW, but I'm so happy that my children will.

I don't remember my first trip. I was born in October and my parents took me in December. I have been hooked ever since. I have had the privlege of taking a friend of mine for the first time.

My senior year of Highschool my family and I went to FW for a long weekend. I invited a friend of mine to go. He had been to Universal, Busch Gardens, Six Flags etc...... This guy was a big athlete. We played football and baseball together and he eventually got a soccer scholarship to pay for college. He got a hopper pass so we could go wherever we wanted. I firts took him to MGM. After riding the good stuff, we left and went to Epcot. He was quickly bored so we went back to FW. We hung out around the campground until it was time to got to the Contemporary to eat with my family. He liked Chef Mickey's but kind of made fun of the atmosphere. We left the Contemporary and went to the Magic Kingdom. As soon as we hit Mainstreet he was 5 years old again. :goodvibes He looked at me and said this is what I have been wanting to see. He was hooked. I talked to him recently. We moved to Mississippi and he moved to Wisconsin so we haven't kept in touch very well. I was calling to congratulate him on getting married. You'll never guess where they went on their honeymoon. :thumbsup2

I was 48 years old when I finally made it to WDW. As a kid we never had the money to make a trip from Illinois all the way to Florida. After years of struggling to make it as an adult with my own family I finally reached the point where I could take the trip.At this point we live in NC so we can make the drive in one day which makes it a little more affordable. I will never forget the first day I walked in to the MK and manuvered my way around Main Street with my wife and daughter at my side. We hit that one place on Main where you look up and there it is the castle that you have seen pictures of all your life. I couldn t believe it but I started blubbering like a little girl. That is why from that day on any time I hear someone say" WDW is great for kids," I answer them with" you bet kids from 1 to 99.

We'll I don't remember my first trip as I was only a little kid, but I do remember my first adult trip.

It was 1999 and I hadn't been to disney since 1982! I took my wife who was my girlfriend at the time. Yes it is very hard to go to sleep the night before as we were soooo excited.

You can feel the anticipation building when you get up in the morning, drive to the airport, etc.

The 3 most magical times are when you first drive through the Disney world gates. Nothing beats the giant Disney entrance. You feel as if you are transporting yourself back in time to when you were 5.

The first time you see the monorail pull up. There is just something about the monorail. It just IS disney.

The best is walking through the main entrance at the magic kingdom, around the circle, and looking down mainstreet to see the Castle at the other end for the first time. Definitely take a picture so you will always have that first view!

To sum it all up, we joked the whole week how our faces hurt because we couldn't stop smiling. There are not many times in life you can say that. Enjoy.

I remember parts of my first trip in 1985-I was only 4 at the time, but I remember I was fascinated with Pooh and friends when they would walk around the MK. I thought Pooh was real! Somewhere there's a picture of me staring at him like he's the greatest thing in the world. I remember riding the original "Journey into Imagination," and the room where Dreamfinder was playing the organ was my favorite part--I rode it over and over! I also remember the smells and the music, when you come out from under the train station at the MK first thing in the morning...to this day, it still means "This is Disney" and makes me smile no matter how many times I go, or how old I get.

We never got to stay on-property until a few years later--we spent one night in the old-style CR Garden Wing rooms, with one king bed for three people. I slept on the floor and loved it! Then we stayed at Fort Wilderness for a week at my birthday when I was 11, and I got to drive the golf carts, and have breakfast at (what is now) Chef Mickey's before going to the park.
And, remember when the CMs used to shut the doors to the monorail manually?
