Remember New Yrs Eve in 1999?

I don't remember where I was, but I do remember all the y2k hype. There were patches everywhere to fix teh clocks. I still don't understand it. :confused3

Yes, I recall there was a lot of concern as 2000 was approaching. People were stocking up on canned goods and bottled water. I think the media really put many in a panic. We decided not to stock pile and relied on faith.

I was in Epcot with too many other people. What a bottleneck it was back in World Showcase because ABC was there. I don't think I'll ever go down there for NYE again - that's how much it scarred me, LOL.

Yes! Our whole family was at a celebration in Newport, KY, location of the new World Peace Bell. It was an international celebration, with all kinds of music, dancing, and celebrating, our governor and Miss America were there!

My youngest daughter was 5 years old, and we told her if she happens to live to be 105 and can say (in a craggy old lady voice) "I remember back in 2000"........ :rotfl:

That was a good one for us. :sunny:

Yes, I do remember that over hyped, un-believable crazed media situation hyped we were all in. and NOTHING HAPPENED!!!!!!

And I was here in my home with my kids at the time.

Many companies, such as mine, spent millions of dollars to make sure that nothing happened. The potential was there for computer problems. Many old systems had to make drastic updates to switch from using two digit years to four digit years. Although, I think the media went to far and scared people unnecessarily, it served a purpose in that computer software companies took the necessary steps to prevent problems ahead of time.

Oh gosh. We all went into Central Park, a spot that lined up with Seventh Avenue and had a direct view of the Times Square ball. And all the fireworks. Great fun.

Right. Many people don't understand that without the preparation that went into it, something would have happened. It wouldn't have been "the end of the age", but still.

Epcot. I don't believe there will ever be fireworks to compare to those; there were so many, it seemed like daytime the sky was so bright.

I was rocking one of my 4 month old twins. The other twin and her 20 month old brother slept through it.

Fast forward to the impending 2006 and those three "babies" are trying to stay up and see the ball drop as I type. I am eavesdropping and they are talking about how much they love the dentist right now!?!?! Lil' weirdos :rotfl:

I was at my sister's house with her kids. I too was surprised to find out that when 2000 rolled over nothing happened.

I was sitting at home 5 months pregnant - rocking my 8 month old baby girl --

<sigh> good times - good times

and tonight I am sitting here with my 5 and 6 year old girls watching Willy Wonka eating chocolate founde

<sigh> good time - good times

For some reason, I don't remember where I was on New Years 1999. I have a feeling I did nothing.

I was at my dad's house. My mom was at some NYE party so we had to spend the night at dad's. We watched the ball drop and went to bed. My dad had already calmed us down about the Y2K hype (I was 13 and my sister was 9), but I was still holding my breath as midnight rolled around.

We had our two year old DD in the ER with pneumonia and dehydration. She was so ill and we saw the new millineum in taking care of one sick little lady.

Something that Feralpeg posted reminded me of a conversation I had with someone just prior to Y2K regarding programmers. As a software engineer, I was a bit sensitive to all the talk of how the people who wrote software were careless to write programs that only allowed 2 digits for the year. I remember asking this person "How do you write the date on your checks?" I think I got my point across because the person stopped whining. I believe that very few people write (or wrote) the year as 4 digits.

So don't blame the programmers/engineers.

Besides there is going to be a bigger problem on January 19, 2038 when all of the unix computer system clocks roll over. You can feel free to blame that one on the software geeks that invented the unix operating system. If we make it past that one OK, then look out for December 21, 9999. When will it end?

oh what a frikin nightmare

I worked for a LARGE local newspaper (which has since become a subsidiary of the New York Times) and they made the tech people work that night (thank heavens NOT ME as a sales person!)

but the stress theat caused for the months before and the money spent getting everything ready was insane!

We were in Epcot at the absolute best NYE celebration that we've ever been a part of.

Feralpeg says is correctly. As for where we were, I think at a friend's home party. We are going there today, later this afternoon.
