Remember New Yrs Eve in 1999?

We got 2 cabins with 3 other couples - had filet mignon and lobster and had a blast. Spent most of the weekend playing dominos and drinking scotch :earsboy:

My now DH had to be at work at a computer call center just in case something went wrong so I kept him company. Luckly the only exciting thing that happened was my knocking over a semifull wine glass on a keyboard. However we did have a great view of the fireworks downtown, plus free booze so we had a great time.

I remember being in high school and my friends and I figuring out how old we would be when that New Year came around. I remember thinking "Hmmm, 28 isn't that old. I can still go out and party."

What I did was stay home with a 3 yr old, and a 5 yr old, puking my guts out because I was pregnant with twins and suffering from horrible morning sickness that had me in and out of the hospital. I love my twins but that night could not have turned out further than what my 16 yr old mind thought it was going to. :goodvibes

We had a great party at our house. We had a bunch of friends and everyone brought their kids. We hired 2 babysitters and the kids had their own party in the basement while we had the adults upstairs. We played cards, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, the town had fireworks and we could see them from our house, it was in the 50's that night so we were fine watching them outside. The guys even put in a round of GOLF that day because it was so warm. We had a BLAST that night!

It wasn't the greatest night for me. I was in a new city where I didn't have that many friends. I ended up going to a party in a church basement with my one friend and her husband.

I was 24, and besides my married friends, I was the youngest person there by 20 years. And the only one who was single. It was depressing!

This is kinda strange, but one of my other friends (from out of town) invited me to go to NYE in Times Square that year. He and a big gang of people were going. I didn't have enough money so I had to pass.

Years later, I found out that my now-husband was in that big gang of people...and I would have met him years sooner if I had gone! I often wonder if we would have fell in love on that trip...or just have stayed friends because we were at different points in our lives.

Besides there is going to be a bigger problem on January 19, 2038 when all of the unix computer system clocks roll over. You can feel free to blame that one on the software geeks that invented the unix operating system. If we make it past that one OK, then look out for December 21, 9999. When will it end?

There are a couple more system conventions that use a "serial" date that will roll over in the next several years as well. Bean counters are far more responsible than the programmers for deciding to cut corners with bits and bytes.

A Dilbert comic strip...

The Boss: "My boss says we need some eunuch programmers."

Dilbert says: "I think he means Unix, not eunuchs. And I already know Unix."

The Boss: "If the company nurse drops by, tell her I said 'never mind.'"

Forgot to say that when I was working, I programmed my VCR to tape the news coverage and see what happened around the world. The Eiffel Tower looked really cool with its fireworks, they also showed the WDW fireworks. I still have it on tape, its was hours of coverage by ABC News, and was hosted by Peter Jennings, rest his soul :(

I was at home with my parents watching TV I believe.

Thats funny, though. We were just talking about that in German today. One kid in my class said that he pulled the greatest prank on New Yrs. Eve 1999. He heard everyone countdown from 3. Right after they said 1, he threw the circuit breaker so all the power went out. He said everyone freaked. After a few minutes he put the power back on and said "some strange comment he thought was funny at the time". LOL.

I worked that night also. I'm a police officer and I never seen that many people from my department working at one time.
There were so many of us working that every call for service had at least four officers respond. Everyone was looking for something to do so the time would go by.

I was pregnant and stayed home with DH and DS (DD was born January 2000) anyway DS at the time was 2. At stroke of midnight I took a picture of him sleeping. Have it in millennium frame.
I don't belive I've been able to stay up till midnight on New Year's Eve since! :rotfl:

DH and I were at my parents' house for a small get-together.

I wasn't really worried about Y2K. I was 8 1/2 months pregnant and I was too pre-occupied with fear that I wouldn't have a place to deliver my baby.

The hospital had been warning all moms due to deliver in January that there was a record number of births expected and that there may be a shortage of delivery rooms. Apparently, everyone was trying to have the "Millennium Baby". I just knew I'd be in a hospital hallway with my feet in stirrups for all to see. :earseek:

Did you mean 8 1/2 months? I was 8 1/2 months pregnant and didn't worry. I never heard of or was imformed of shortage of delivery rooms. There wasn't a shortage either (by me anyway) :)
Probably would have just freaked out had I been told there may be a shortage of delivery rooms :scared:

Yes! I was originally going to post how many weeks pregnant I was, then I decided it would be easier to just say 8 1/2 months instead.

It was really freaking me out a bit. It was enough of a concern that the hospital sent a letter to all the January moms. Everything worked out and I had a very nice room. I didn't even have to share it with four other moms! :teeth:

Awesome!!

Who knows maybe I too was sent a letter but never got it?? Don't know. Glad I didn't hear of anything like that. I was a nervous wreck as it was, LOL!

It may have just been in my state or city...maybe even just that particular hospital. :confused3

Yeah, I was really glad it worked out. I think my 24 hours of labor would have been even less enjoyable in some public area! :rotfl:

For Dec 31, 1999 I had a huge party at my house. It was off the hook too. Tons of people, some I didn't even know. We set up the house in party mode (moving the furniture to the sides and putting away breakables) and to make more room we opened our slider in the living room the opens up to the back covered patio. We found this sliver tarp/insulating roll (looked liked space walls) and "enclosed" our patio ourself. We had an amazing time! Tons of food, drinks for days and we woke up to a sea of people sleeping on the floor. One of the best new years parties.

we were home with our new baby boy! :sunny:he is in kindergarten now-where did the time go??

I was never worried about Y2K...never stockpiled or anything. Now I work in a grocery store and saw tons of people stockpiling and then returning all the stuff the following week!
