Remedy for chapped lips

Carmex. I am the queen of Carmex. Everybody at work knows who to go to if they need some. At all times I have a tub or jar in my desk, in my purse (some times 2), in my coat pocket, in the car, on each one of the kids, plus DH's and my night stands, in both bath rooms, on the end table, on the kitchen window sill and a couple of spare in the medicine cabinet. I swear I need to purchase stock in the company.

As a kid, I use to get the worse chapped lips, to the point that I have a scar outlining my lips from the severity of the chapping. Nothing the Dr's prescripted worked, until my Grandma had me try Carmex.

One thing I did as a kid to help to keep from licking my lips in my sleep, is I would take a towel, one of the hand sized ones, and I would drape it over my mouth and chin. It has become so ingrained in my sleep habit, that I had to make me one out of a silkier matterial now that I am an adult. Both kids sleep with a very worn out baby blanket drapped over their mouth and chin. It has worked wonders in speeding up the healing when/if any of us gets chapped lips.

Classic Chapstick is good for prevention but not so much for helping to heal chapped lips. To help heal, I use Blistex lip ointment. I also use Chapstick 100% Naturals lip butter which is much silkier than the classic waxy chapstick.

I always put a balm of some kind on my lips at bedtime. Chapstick 100% Naturals is the one I've been using lately.

I actually use a buf-puf on my lips to remove the flaky stuff.

I don't really like Carmex because of the camphor and menthol in it. I just don't like the feeling or taste. Blistex has this stuff in it but I only use it for healing and not everyday use.

I can't say enough good things about AQUAPHOR. It is a miracle cure for chapped lips. You will probably have to look for it in the lotion section (not near the chapsticks) of the drug store. If you can't find it, I am sure the pharmacist will be able to tell you exactly where it is.

When my kids get chapped lips, I coat them with Aquaphor at bedtime and by the morning they are almost back to normal. Be careful, though, because it will stain fabrics.

Also, make sure you are drinking enough water, dehydration leads to chapped lips, and you can't afford to be dehydrated while pregnant.

I can't say enough good things about AQUAPHOR.
Me either, I even found little "travel tubes" of it at CVS to try for the first time (didn't wanna buy the small tub and find out i didn't like it) and LOVE IT. I actually need to stop myself from using it sometimes so that I don't run out before I can get some more (I haven't seen it in Canada anywhere :confused3 ).

I use A&D ointment. In fact using it now. Never hurts, burns and always heals.

It is a little gross but I hate the pain of being chapped.

Burts Bees. Another thing we used to do is put Johnson's Baby Cream (NOT lotion... used to be in a jar -- it's in a tube now) on our lips before bed. It was awesome.

I'm a brass player, and Carmex is one of the worst things you can use -- since it's drying you have to put it on constantly.

Cocoa butter. Doesn't taste nasty, so I'll use it more often than I would something like Carmex.

Chapstick is useless for me - it's like rubbing wax on my lips. When my lips are really chapped I will take a warm washcloth a few times a day and lightly try to scrub the dead skin off then grease my lips rubbing it in well with vaseline.

I second this. It sounds funny but try exfoliating your lips with a warm wash cloth, sugar, or a dry toothbrush and then putting on vaseline.

vicks vapo rub.....i know, i know, the smell is strong and it tastes bad.....but it works like magic!

A little pricey - about $12-15 I can't remember but the best lip goo on the planet.

MAC Cosmetics - Lip Conditioner Hydrant (w/o sunscreen)

I read somewhere that the ingredients in Carmex actually cause more chapping and thus it requires more constant use. It might be a myth, I have no clue, I just remember reading it.

I swear by Carmex during the day and if my lips get really bad Zinc Oxide at night. My girls call it the white stuff. I put it on thick and in the morning my lips are good as new.

Another vote for Aquaphor in the little tubes. Rub with wet wash cloth to exfoliate away the dead skin, slather on Aquaphor. It's essentially medicated vaseline, I think. I wish they'd make it in a slightly more solid stick form.

When my lips aren't ultra-chapped, I still just use Aquaphor or Burts Bees Pomegranate lip balm.

Mary Kay Satin Lips. No, I'm not a seller of their products. I just like the stuff a lot. I keep a tube in the shower & scrub the exfoliant on then put the lip balm on after my shower. Makes my lips look wonderful & no chapping. I also use the lip balm at night before I go to bed.

Does anyone have a remedy for chapped lips that they swear by?? I have had chapped lips for a couple of weeks now, and no matter how many different chapsticks I try, I can't seem to get them back on track.

Help me!!:worship:

I don't have any brands of lip stuff to recommend, but I did want to pass on my experience.

I was having a lot of problems with chapped lips and no matter what stuff I put on, or how often I put it on, my lips weren't getting better. Ends up, I had developed a sensitivity to lanolin...and most lip products have lanolin in them. Now, I know it's not likely that is your problem (I'm allergic or sensitive to a lot of things), but you might try finding a lip product without lanolin and giving that a try.

Another vote for Burt's here. I ship it over to Iraq regularly too.

The BEST thing for chapped lips is to drink more water. I like Neutrogena lip stuff but it is really hard to find.
