Went to check in at POR on Friday and was told they moved me to PORFQ. No notice or anything--when I asked why I was told they couldn't honor my AP rate at POR so they moved me to PORFQ. Not the end of the world by any means but notice would have been nice since dining plans and PS/AR'S were made for Boatwrights and now they are rather inconvienient. Also, if they do this to you be sure to check your final balance--I had to show my confimation and argue my remaining balance since they charged me to move me to PORFQ waterview--charged me for the upgrade, but they did credit it back when I argued it. I like PORFQ, as we have stayed her before, but I really would have liked to know I was being changed prior to the checkin.

I would have been upset if I was moved and then charged for an upgrade. Good thing you noticed that. I am glad everything worked out okay though.

We just got back from POR on Thursday. I bet that they relocated you because they were overbooked. The resort filled up definitely no rooms at the inn.

I would have been irritated with the voercharge, but not necessarily with the change in hotels.

All hotels (and airlines, etc.) overbook since they count on someone not showing up. This is why if I'm going at a busy time I try to arrive as early as possible, so when the music stops playing, I still have a place to sit.

Shouldn't they upgrade to a better resort? Airlines overbook and then offer free tickets to those who wait until later to fly.

If I went to check in to a resort and they said I was being moved, it should be to better resort.

I am staying at AKL and GF later this month and would not be very happy to be changed to WL and Poly. I have specific reasons for the resorts I chose and have dining at both.

Overbookings do occur in all aspects of the travel industry as stated. It is a hassle when it occurs, but the nature of the business to try and keep down costs due to cancellations, etc.

Sometimes Disney will upgrade but right now almost every resort at Disney is sold out.

They did upgrade the OP to waterview and she was wise to make sure she had not been charged for it. :flower:

Booked POR, 2 adults, 3 teens, (petite daughter). If you try to book a room, the "exceed limit" sign pops up, but if you book the package, the system lets you choose POR. I called CR and spoke with a rep who gave me the resv over the phone, said it was fine. I hope they don't bump me! We did this 2 years ago when youngest was 11, no problem. Also, I joined AAA just to get the $129 room price (also fot 2 nites at Hard Rock for $234 a nite). Can't wait for Florida! :Pinkbounc

If they move you, it will have to be to another resort that holds 5...that would be any of the deluxe's except for WL & AKL. So if you keep your fingers crossed you do get moved...a free upgrade to a deluxe :wizard: They could not move you to POFQ or any of the other mods or values.

There is no way I would have allowed them to move me to another hotel especially POFQ - I cannot stand that hotel.
WDW always says they can't guarantee requests (floor, room view, etc) and I understand that but I don't understand moving you to another hotel.
If I reserved a room at POR that is where I want to stay. Nothing in their paperwork or advertisements gives them the option of moving you to another resort.
When I check in to a Marriott I don't expect to be sent to the Holiday Inn down the street.

Because Disney actually counts as one resort they have the ability to move guests if a particular property is overbooked. The way it works it to first try and move guests to a comparable resort and if those are booked than start the upgrade process. So for example if you are at a moderate and all the other moderates are full than they will start with the least expensive of the deluxes and go from there!! I have actually been privy to a walk from the all star to the boardwalk or the Grand. This allows for all resorts to run as close to 100% occupied as possible. Please note that on average anywhere from 1 to 5 reservations do not show up a day and even more when you are dealing with a convention property.

I booked for January 2005 at the Holiday Inn DTD. A week after I booked I went to their site and they were no longer taking reservations for my dates. A few weeks later I received a letter stating that because of damage from the Hurricanes they were closing indefinitly and were moving our reservation to Best Western DTD. I was just glad they kept us in DTD instead of offsite. The lowest price I could find on the BW site was quite a bit higher than HI, they only charged me the price I had with HI ( I assume HI made up the difference ) BW was very nice and we had a DTD view. The only problem we had was that we had to make sure that the door closed all the way. It was tight, because it looked like someone had kicked it in at one time and it had been repaired.
