Religion?

Just clarifying.

But why should I forsake my religious rights to make other people happy?

And Columba (sorry I don't your name), I didn't say that America was "100% witch-burning Puritan." I'm just saying that just because their religions have popped up in America doesn't mean that we should change what we were based on. I mean, Muslims believe that killing people is alright, so if enough Muslims move to America, should murder become legal???

Oh Jesus... So it begins

could you be any more stereotypically cliche if you tried?

Because it's the polite thing to do. You think it's alright to offend people just because you practice a different faith then them?

Excuse me, not all muslims believe that killing people is alright. That was totally uncalled for.

Well you know it offends Christians to say "Happy Holidays." And if it's so polite, why can't you say "Merry Christmas?"

And you're right, that was totally uncalled for. First thing I could think of though. My apologies. :flower3:

how the hell does wishing you a happy holiday offend you?
unless you tattoo "i'm a christian and i celebrate christmas" on your forehead, no one is going to know. they're just trying to be polite. jeez. get off your high horse and just accept their well wishes.

i was a hardcore atheist for 12 years. i have never in my life been offended by anyone well-wishing me. if you honestly are, you need a serious reality check.

happy holidays. :)

If you're so offended when someone says "happy holidays" to you how do you think you'd feel if someone says "Happy Hannukah"?

Are you seriously offended when someone wishes you happy holidays?

I have plenty of Christian friends, and they don't have a problem with it. They respect my religion as well as all of there other friends who don't practice the same faith. I do say Merry Christmas to my friends that I know celebrate the holiday. I would never tell my Jewish friends "Merry Christmas", especially if I knew they didn't celebrate it. That would be quite rude.

Why does it offend Christians to say Happy Holidays? Why can't some Christians respect that not everyone believes what they do, and doesnt celebrate everything they do? Would you feel offended if I told you "Happy Hannukah" ?

On the "Happy Holiday" thing. That's the PC thing to do. If I was an orthodox Jew I would not be happy if someone in retail told me Merry Christmas.

If you want to wish someone a good holiday, just say Happy Holidays. That way no one gets offended. :thumbsup2
I never find it offensive if someone says Happy Holidays. In this day and age, it is great if someone actually says it, I think!

Actually, yes. Well, it isn't the fact that they are saying happy holidays, as the fact that they refuse to take an religious side. If somebody says happy Hanukkah, it's fine with me. As long as they give their religious POV. It is totally pathetic to be so concerned about being PC and trying to please everybody that you can't even acknowledge your religion.

Your religion isn't the only religion, though.
People aren't going to be rude and just assume that you celebrate Christmas.
I don't see why Happy Holidays would offend anyone. Atleast that person is taking the time to wish you anything.

news flash.
there is more than just religious holidays in december?
did you ever stop to think, "hmm. perhaps they're wishing me a merry christmas and a happy new year?"
christmas and new years are both holidays.

if this is really what offends you, you must live a wonderfully comfortable life. i long for the day that all i have to worry about is if some stranger wishes me a merry christmas or not.

But sometimes you don't even know what that particular person/customer even celebrates!
I tell people Merry Christmas who I know celebrate it, but if I'm not sure Happy Holidays will suffice.

I'd just be more considerate to the feelings of others instead of insisting on reminding them of a renamed-Roman festival that they don't celebrate, but that's just me.

Gee. For some reason I though New Years was in January...

And I do live a nice life, thank you.

And if a Jewish person wishes me a happy Hanukkah, thats fine. They've stated their religion.
If a Japanese (or whoever it is that celebrates this) person wishes me a happy Omisaka, that's fine. They've stated their religion.
If an Australian/Canadian/British person wishes me a happy boxing day, thats fine.

People just need to stop being so PC and live their life.

What do you propose Athiests wish you? Happy December 25th? happy holidays, perhaps?

What if someone didn't have a set religion, and just wanted to wish you a Happy Holiday?

I don't see why anyone would waste there time and strength to get upset over someone who's being PC and just trying to be polite. Stress and anger just wears a person down, it's not even worth it.

You all seem quite upset right now actually.

I think thats good when you are raised in a way that you can find your own way, which I think religion should be. I really don't like the idea of being taught about one religion from a young age as I believe religion should be a self-discovery not something that is taught (which is how I found my religious side).

:hippie:

Agreed
I hate the fact my parents pushed me into being a christian at a young age
I hated my church back then
The pastor was absessed about talking about H-E-Double Hockey Stick
She was all like do this or else you will go there
I so did not listen to her she just gave me the jeebers
I'm thankful we switched churches because I never want to see that lady again
I really think it should be a childs choice which they decide at about 11 years old
Not a parent forcing there children in there
I mean seriously it should be the childs choice not the parents

Okay you need to realize, that I'm pretty sure that people who move here from another country know that they're going to have to adapt to the changes here. Just because they're Muslim doesn't mean they're stupid.

1. I'm Christian
2. If someone says Happy Holidays I am not at all offended. Stereotyyyyping

Just a quick question to all athiests.

So you guys dont believe in any God or w/e so do you still do Santa Claus, but like its just a time of giving? or??? (how do you celebrate the holidays basically)

Sorry if this has already been asked.
