Oh gosh, I'd die in Catholic school.
Actually, I'd be expelled for my sexuality D:
Some Catholic schools have a zero homosexuality rule.
I've read stories of kids who've gotten expelled for coming out in a really strict Catholic school.
Brown University in Texas will expell students for being homosexual, but that's the only case I've ever heard of. But then, I live in NH which is a mostly liberal state now and we're fairly lenient. I went to Catholic schools for 8 years and was never expelled, even after I came out as bi. One of my teachers was actually a lesbian, but she wasn't allowed to talk about it in school, but she mentioned it to me once when we ran into each other outside of school.
I don't think anyone can make a proper religious affiliation or debate it properly until they're 18+. You always hear middle school aged kids or early high schoolers saying "Oh I'm athiest woooooo" not really even knowing what it means but only saying it because other people are. I know my views on everything changed drastically from 6th grade to now.
I'm not trying to start an argument, I just don't think you should tell someone else what is right and wrong.
Also to continue what Sam was saying most younger kids basically are going on what there parents have raised them on. I could ask my 10 year old brother right now what religion he is and I am 100% sure he would say Catholic. Then I could ask him so what does the Catholic faith mean to you and he wouldn't know what to say. Guaranteed. He is just going on what my parents have taken us to and raised us on.
I never knew there was an age limit on when you could discuss or debate religion.
I think a high schooler (which is usually a 15 year old) knows what an athiest is. I also think a 15 year old can think for themselves.
Maturity does NOT solely come from age. It also comes from life experiences. Have I matured a lot from when I was 15? Yes! But I know I could hold a debate then.
I know that Jenny (BabyPiglet) is only like 15 or 16 and I thought she was an ADULT when I saw her write on the community board until I came and saw her over here. I think she can handle a religious debate.
I'm also older than most of the people on this board, since I'm 19. However, I would never say "I'm older than you so I know this or that." I'd give advice on what I have gone through in my life, since I am probably more likely to have gone through more experiences than a 15 year old. I wouldn't tell them that their opinion is irrelevant because of their age.
Not bringing these back up just for the sake of fighting, but it really does depend on the person. I was raised Catholic as can be. 8 years of Catholic schools, mandatory mass once a month. I made my first communion, first reconcilliation and was baptised, but never confirmed. However, around 9 or 10, I knew that the Catholic religion wasn't for me. I spent 5 years as an atheist because I just had no idea what to believe in, I just knew it wasn't the Catholic God or Jesus. At 15 I took one of those silly online quizzes regarding what religion I should follow and my result was Satanism. Well, that got me thinking. I started researching several different religions that I thought sounded cool. I read about Buddhism, Taoism, Islam, and Satanism because those were the 4 that interested me most. I read a little about Judaism, but again, it dealt with the same God just in a different way so that was out. That's eventually what got Islam crossed off my list. Buddhism was out because I decided that it didn't fit quite right with my lifestyle and that was what got rid of the idea of Taoism for me. Satanism, however, is like a second home to me. I'm 17 and I know that this is where i belong. It envelopes all my ideas and beliefs and it's like it was made for me. I know that this is where I belong and it's been a long journey to get here, but now that I'm here it's been worth the trip. Some people know when they're younger than me, but some people are like Shelby who are still questing. I respect all religions and people unless they try and tell me I'm a silly little child who has no idea what's going on in the world. I've been called dumb and sinner more times that I can count. I've been told I'm going to hell by people I don't even really know because of my faith. I got over it though and just started to joke about it. I've got a handbasket that has a comfy couch and digital cable so at least it'll be a comfy ride. But being called immature is a whole 'nother story.
Exactly.
