Hi everyone, I'm 13 and I'm going to DC in April, but I don't have a suitcase :confused3
I know what you're thinking...reliable/cheap, the ultimate suitcase, but I seriously need help! By cheap I mean under 100 dollars, because I'll be keeping it for awhile. It needs to be carryon size, though.
These are the factors:
- Cheap
- Cute
- VERY RELIABLE
- noticeable

I'll really take any reviews of suitcases, whether they worked or not; I could use anything at this point!
Thanks DIS people!

Do you have a flea market near you?

I've gotten some really good suitcases for around $30 at mine.

Take a look in your local Sam's Club or Costco. Both of my parents got sets of luggage there for around $100 that included two rollaboards, duffel/carry-on, and messenger bag.

You can also check out TJ Maxx and Marshall's if you just want one piece.

I recommend Samsonite, myself, as far as brands go.

ETA: I've seen really bright coloured luggage at Kohl's (pink, purple, yellow, etc).

Don't buy the cheap 3 piece set at Target, the 2 suitcases fell apart on the way home from WDW. Didn't even make one trip. :headache:

They were super cheap though, so I did get what I paid for.

We don't have one :(

You don't even want to know what is going through my head right now. Guess what I bought and had to return? :rolleyes1

Oooooo.... And Disney, thank you!

Also, I've heard they have bad write-ups, have you heard that at all?

I have a disney set, although not this exact one. The wheel broke off one of the larger cases when we transferred resorts. I'll consider buying a disney replacement if I can again get the trio for the $27 I got it for before, but otherwise I'll stick to a better, name brand.

I did learn, if you buy this, take a pic you can show the airport folk! That way if the luggage is lost or misplaced and you're asked what brand it is they won't ask 1000 times "what brand is it?" after you answer "Disney" LOL

:rotfl2:

I think I'll sadly stick with a better brand than Disney, because it has to last for a while and be pretty durable.

You had bought that one? Did you return it before it was used? Or did it fall apart too?

Mine did make it home with all my things inside, but one wheel completely shredded, (wheel, plastic wheel anchor, bolt and all) on the way to check out at the resort. The smaller one's little foot snapped off at the same time, so it won't stand up. The material was intact so my clothes were safe, it's just that the wheels and outside things broke.

I like L.L. Bean myself. I have their duffle bag luggage and it has lasted seven years and no problems, good as new. :thumbsup2

I have to admit that I haven't used my Disney luggage yet. I bought 2 sets for our upcoming trip. I got them both for around that $45 price with the discounts I used to order them so they were $100 for 2 sets. But we are at a point in life that if it only lasts us for one trip then we got our moneys worth. Of course we aren't flying and will be handling it ourselves for the most part.

I can understand though the need to buy one thing that will last. Do you have any outlets near you? Another place to look is Lands End. (online) I am not sure if they have wheeled cases, but I know they used to have a 100% guarantee. That is the luggage we bought when were young and poor and needed something high quality. One piece did get damaged and they replaced it free of charge. We are still using that set today. It was a Garment Bag, a Carry on size bag and a shaving kit. DH uses it for all his travel.

I just checked, here is their link: http://www.landsend.com/ix/home-tra...&pageSize=12&tab=5&setSort=Price:+low+to+high They have duffle bags in your price range that come in a variety of colors.

Cheap luggage is not going to be durable.
In the luggage world, you get what you pay for. At least that has been my experience.

I would agree with the poster who said to take a look at LLBean. Anything I have ever bought from LLBean has been good quality, well-made, and if there is a problem, they stand behind it.

Duffles are a good choice because the actual weight of the suitcase is light, so that packing it is easier. LLBean has several choices in both rolling and non-rolling duffles. Plus they come in a variety of color and I think even some prints/patterns now, so you could pick something that's a little more obvious as it comes off the luggage carousel, rather than they usual black that 90% of the world seems to have. We have green luggage and I found these shiny copper-colored tags to go on it, so it's a little easier to spot.

We bought a set of Samsonite luggage. It's beautiful and very sturdy, was pretty expensive and has lasted us a while, but the suitcases empty weigh like 8-10 lbs., so that's 8-10lbs.less you can pack.

In these days of airline weight limts, that makes a differnece!

Sam's Club has good suitcases. .

Also, Eddie Bauer suitcases are Target are solid.

JcPenney and Kohl''s have great sales on suitcases.

Be sure you check the zippers and the weight. Lift the thing. If you think it's too heavy, forget about it.

Iherc.

Oh - good find! OP - I'd go with the American Tourister iLite Expandible in Pink. I've have older American Tourister bags (with wheels and pull handles) that have help up great for over 15 years. My only concern is the storage space looks rather small, but that's what you get with carry ons.

Of course, College kids Love duffles as they can fit SO much into them and some of those LLBean ones look great!

Happy Shopping OP!

I already got mine, but thanks for helping :) What I found was great.

I can't believe I left to go shopping before I read these!

I decided on a Samsonite. We found a great deal at Tuesday Morning! 70 something for this:
