Hi everyone. I just got a call from the Director of HR from a local retail company. I had applied for an Assistant Buyer job a while back, and my resume for this position was passed on to her by a former boss of DH (that she works with- pretty high up in the company). Anyway, she called me to tell me that this lady had passed along my resume to her, but they were looking for someone who had Assistant Buying experience (thus far, I have been an Administrative Assistant OUT of retail). She did say that she wanted to meet with me over coffee in a week or two to answer any questions I have (not sure what that means?) and touch base. This is a good thing right? Anyone have HR experience? This is a good thing, right? I don't think that there is a job open there right now... so I hope it's not a waste of time... I know they always say "we'll keep your resume on file"... do they REALLY do that? I hope this meeting brings about good things, especially since it's the Director of HR and not a recruiter.

Oh... to the $$$ thing... it always goes back to $$ doesn't it? UGH. Well, I am employed right now (which I am SO thankful for), but I make $11.24 an hour, doing a job with the workload of 3 people, AND I have a bachelor's degree. SO, needless to say, I'm ready to make a change. :cutie:

It sounds like a courtesy interview to me. It sounds to me like she wants to meet with you to give you guidance on how to break into the field you are looking at, and help you find experiences that are relevant.

I would not find it a waste of time. I would go in using it as a good networking opportunity and to get some valuable career advice. Also, down the road if a position opens, they may be more likely to call you back.

At least to me it doesn't sound like anything more than a courtesy interview, but that can be a good thing!

Well I can say we've kept resumes on file. We advertised for a secretary at our branch office, however Workforce Development first posted the ad in the county of our main office. So, we at first got resumes from this county. When we needed to hire here, the first thing we did was look at those local resumes again (a few months later) and we hired one.

We are just a small law firm in a small town though, I can't speak for other places!

Any contact/networking is a good thing. Good luck!

I'd look at it as a networking opportunity. Make sure you go in there prepared with questions. You never know who's hiring these days. I firmly believe that it is very important to have a strong and solid professional network.

I landed my current contracting position through a former boss' wife. You never know who is looking to fill a position.

Make sure you add this person to your LinkedIn profile. Good luck!

Great idea on the LinkedIn!!!

It's basically a 'professional' social networking site. You upload your resume, make contacts, introduce yourself to people, etc. www.linkedin.com
