Yeah. So I got my rejection letter today. I feel like such a loser. I also feel like I'm the only new applicant to be outright rejected.. :sad2:

I'm sorry! You're not a loser at all!

You can always try to apply again for the Spring program!

Aww come on you're not a loser and not the only one who has been or will be rejected. Just keep your head up and have the courage to try again. Like Walt said "All of our dreams can come true if we have the courage to follow them." Just continue to follow this dream of yours and it WILL come true.

First, :grouphug:

Second, yup, it sucks. Have chocolate. Have more chocolate.

My DD got rejected on her first try, got pended (then rejected) on her second try. Third time - got the purple folder!

Don't give up on your dream.

...Thanks Mom.

Hahaha.

But she's right. And you know what? It can be a learning experience. Call them! Ask to set up an appointment with your recruiter to talk about what you can do better for next time. Tell them you want to apply again, that you still haven't given up! That shows you're dedicated, and they like that.

Do they make a note on your record about that? I have no idea. But it's worth it to try, right? And this way, you learn for next time.

How many roles did you pick? Which ones? If they are highly competitive and you didn't put that many, that might play into it. I picked 3 or 4 my first time, and wasn't very receptive to adding any more, so that didn't help me at all. All of the ones I picked were reallyyyy competitive (like Photopass only takes about 30 CPs every year, so that's really slim, and I'm not a Hospitality major, so that didn't help me with my #1 role of Hospitality).

You are definitely not the only one to get rejected right out. It happened to me, it happens to other people, but a lot of them don't say it happened, so you don't know about it. Remember, about 15,000 - 20,000 people apply each year, and only 3,000 make it. A lot of them don't even make it past the web interview. And a lot of them aren't on the DISboards. That's probably what it is, in fact. You have a small centralized population of Disney-loving people, so we're an anomaly. The general population, who isn't in the Facebook group and aren't on here, makes up a huge amount of that 15-20,000.

It stinks. I know it does. I was upset for months. It took me a year (and 3 seasons) to finally get in. And I bet I could have gotten in my second season if I hadn't applied so late. In retrospect, thinking about my first interview, I realized a lot of my mistakes, and fixed them for the future ones.

If you really want to do this again, keep a watch out for when applications go up again. For Spring 2011, they'll go up around August/September. If you want to apply for Fall 2011, look around January 20th of next year.

Looking around, it does seem like you're in the minority. But you're really not, so try to keep your chin up. If it helps, take a break from the boards for a while. I know that I stayed on here after I didn't get in, and that didn't help. But then I took a break and came back a few months later, ready for another season of applying.

I wish you luck in whatever you decide to do, and hope you know that you're not alone in this - know there are other people there who are with you, or experienced the same thing in the past. If you want to talk about it more, send me a message. I'll listen.

Thank you so much ZerotoHero. You really made me feel better.

I think I know where I went wrong. I didn't apply all that early (my interview was February 18th). I only selected four roles (attractions, merchandise, character attendant, and FSFB). I answered one question a bit awkwardly. It was "Do you feel that any problems might arise from living and working with people from all over the world?" My reply was "Not anything major. When you get people from different cultures together some misunderstandings might take place. If my roommate were doing something that seemed odd to me, I would ask them about it. Hopefully in that process I'd learn something new. The idea of living and working with people from all over the world excites me." I think I should have just stuck with "No!" and including my excitement of that aspect.

My answer to the "Why are you interested in the CP?" was already pre-thought out and written done. Due to nerves, I read it right from my notebook and it probably lacked true personality behind it as a result. It was an amazing answer but take out the smile and excitement, it lost a lot of value.

I do entirely plan to reapply until I get it. I'm only a sophomore right now, so I have four more tries left! In a sense, I'm happy that I'll be able to spend the major holidays at home with my family and boyfriend.

I actually like that answer. It's honest and shows that you are willing to live with and adapt with different cultures.

I think for next time you should practice your answers out loud several times so you get used to saying the same thing--but differently each time. This helped me with my interview, because I didn't sound like I was reading off a paper..but I sounded confident and that's important too, so keep that in mind.

Try not to get discouraged. You still have time to do the CP! Also, try applying even earlier!

I like that answer too! I bet they hear a lot of "No." answers, and so yours really shows that you aren't just saying it to say it, because you know it's the right answer.

If you saved that paper that you had that one answer written on, keep it around in a safe place. Next time you apply, look at it before you interview. But don't read it! That's what I did, and you're right. I knew afterwards that it sounded like I read it, and I feel like that didn't help me.

You want to go in prepared, but you also want to be able to deviate from the script and be and sound spontaneous. Both extremes (sounding scripted or sounding unprepared) aren't what you want to be, but I have no doubts that you'll do fantastic for your second time, and get in. You sound like a great addition to the Disney Company, and they just need to see that!

 Glad I made you feel better.

I was rejected my first go around and I got accepted for the next program so dont be discouraged. Trust me things happen for a reason. It is well worth the wait!

I know people who have been rejected the first time got in the next I also have a good frined who just got rejected for what would have been his 3rd ICP.. so ya really never know what they are thinking looking for ect that day. Now you will be 100% ready for the questions as they will be the same next symester and you wont be as nervious becasue of it and maybe you'll just say no or "no, I think it'll be an interesting experance learning about other peoples culters" which is kind of the same as what you said but sounds less like you think there might be a problem. Though you where honest with them and I don't think it should have been a problem. like I said who knows! But I'm sure you'll get to do it at some point everything happens for a reason so maybe this symester something great will happen where you are and then next sysmester Disney will be great for you as well :)
