Does anyone know the saying that goes along with the reindeer food? The food recipe is oats and glitter. You put it in a ziploc baggie and attach a note with the directions about sprinkling it out on the lawn for santa's reindeer to find your house. I had it once and need it again.
Thanks

This is the one I have used.

Make a wish and close your eyes tight.
Then sprinkle on your lawn at night.
As Santa's reindeer fly and roam,
this food will guide them to your Home!

My DD loves this and it's a tradition every year.

does anyone know if the food just has glitter and oats or is there something else?

You can do it any variety of ways. We like to use the old fashioned oats (they are bigger) and red, green, silver and gold glitter (just a little glitter goes a long way). We use the small ziplock bags you get at craft stores (smaller than snack size, they are more square). I put the poem on a large sticker and put on the bag. She gives these to her friends and we always get lots of compliments on what a neat little idea. Enjoy.

Thank You Tigger Fan it's not exactly how I remember it but it will do. I think I like your's better anyway. I knew someone would know it. Happy Holidays!!!!!

Here's one I found online and am going to use for the kids at my Christmas party on Saturday:

On Christmas Eve, sprinkle this wonderful reindeer food on your front lawn. The shiny colored sugars (or glitter) will sparkle in the moonlight and the smell of the oats will guide Rudolph to your home.

Ingredients:
Oatmel
Red and green sugar

I make a huge batch every year with my daycare kids. We throw all sorts of things in there -- Cheerios, fruit loops, oats, and their most favorite part -- dried corn which we usually feed to the squirrels. It keeps the kids busy breaking it off of the cob -- they really enjoy it. We've used the colored green & red sugars instead of glitter. I've read that it's healthier for the animals who will come to feast on it.

I found a new poem to use this year:

The big day is coming,
Santa's on his way
His reindeer are busy pulling the sleigh
they are going to be hungry,
so give them a treat,
sprinkle this reindeer food on the front lawn
for them to eat!

I made some last year and my "recipe" is similar to those who posted. I also put in some granola and bird seed..

The saying I used is similar to the one that Tiger Fan posted:

Make a wish and close your eyes tight.
Then sprinkle on your lawn at night.
As Santa's reindeer fly and roam,
this food will guide them to your Home!
For your gift to the reindeer and Rudolph too
Your wish may be real, your dreams may come true...

I have a hilarious recipe for reindeer poop and a cute little poem that goes with it. I make it up every year. It's really funny and actually quite good. If anyone wants it let me know.

I've been following this thread wishing I'd known about this when DD or DS was little. I felt like I'd "missed the boat" until DizneyDogs post. The reindeer poop sounds right up DS's alley. :rotfl: Even though he's almost 24 & married, he still thinks bodily functions are funny.

The poem that we use is. I also use the cake glitter, it is safer for the birds that may eat the food.

Sprinkle on the lawn at night
The moon will make it sparkle bright
Santa's reindeer fly and roam
This will guide the to your home.

That's the one we use too Autochick!

I've always done red glitter and oatmeal. I've put these in the treat bags at every Christmas party since DD was in kindergarten. I went ahead and made them this year even though she's in 5th grade. It's my last year to make it. Next year she's off to middle school and I'm guessing Magic Reindeer Food wouldn't be "cool" :guilty:

We made up 50 bags of reindeer food for my kids to give out to classmates. This year our "recipe" was one large bag of squirrel food (cracked corn, peanuts, sunflower seeds), one large bag of cheap bird seed, one large cannister of oatmeal, one small tube of gold glitter and one large jar of crystal glitter. Mix well.... scoop into pretty christmas bags, staple shut. We brought two extra bags of this to our church's annual pie/baked goods auction this past Sunday.... the first bag went for $20 and the second bag went for $50 !! My kids were thrilled that they had something to contribute to the auction! Too bad I didn't know about the poem.... maybe they would have brought even more $$ ! Happy Holidays!...............P

twinscandc - can you send me the "poop" too.

My DS and I make reindeer food each year. I never had the poem. Glad I saw this.

Thanks for posting this! We did it today in my son's class and it was a huge hit!
