rehearsal dinner before actual rehearsal?

we are considering having our rehearsal dinner the night our parents & wedding party arrive, then having the ceremony rehearsal the next morning. is that weird? has anyone else done that? rehearsal dinner before ceremony rehearsal.

I don’t think it’s weird. The only thing to consider is whether you think people will still come to the rehearsal (I would imagine that your bridesmaids might not bring their spouses to the rehearsal if it’s the next day, for instance). You might call it a “Welcome Party” instead of a rehearsal dinner if you want to. If not, that’s fine too—just be sure all the wedding party knows when the actual rehearsal is.

we're also having a welcome dinner for all our guests on sunday. we wanted to have a private rehearsal dinner with our parents & wedding party only on saturday before our other guests arrive. then have the ceremony rehearsal sunday morning.

I see! I think that would work nicely, plus I think it would be a special evening with just your wedding party.

Thats not weird. Here is what we are doing, it's not exactly traditional either: Alot of our friends can't make it till friday so we are going to have our rehearsal on thursday so the boys can golf on friday, then the rehearsal dinner on friday night, with the ceremony on saturday. It may look like golf is taking priority but really, we are just maximizing what we can do and involve the most people! Just do whatever works for you!!

the ceremony rehearsal is a practice play of the wedding ceremony at your venue, you go through the order of the ceremony, practice walking & wedding party places, sometimes rehearse ceremony readings. the rehearsal dinner is typically a private dinner before the wedding day, with you & the groom2be along with your parents, officiant & wedding party and sometimes out of town guests. many people do toasts, gift thank you gifts, or just have a nice time with their loved ones.
