I SOOOO knew someone was going to do that. (I love DIS! :grouphug: ) To be honest, I thought it was going to be skiingfast though. :goodvibes

All I know is that Disney always used the term "refurbishments." :wizard:

Nice! :goodvibes

As an English major, allow me to add that rehab is a new word, or neologism, that has been coined through the process of clipping. :teacher:

The clipped word is generally used only with the first definition listed above. So in a way, you're both right: rehab can be used as an abbreviation for rehabilitation, with its full array of definitions, or it can be used as the new word, with its limited, new-school application.

Disney is old-school. :cool2:

Thankfully, here in the US, words never change their meaning. Bad means bad and decimate means decimate. How would we ever communicate with one another if the meaning of words changed? Why, it would be total chaos! In fact, we should pass a law that you can not change the meaning of a word. :rotfl2:

Yeah it used to be a dinner and show spot for Aladdin. Before that it was called the Tahitian Terrace and was a dinner and dance/music show from the Polynesian; from 1963 til it closed to become Aladdin's Oasis in 1993. Sad was that the Tahitian Terrace was jam packed every single day, Aladdin didn't even live up to that which is why it closed. I say bring back the Tahitian Terrace!!

OMG wasnt that the best???

Now- when you say Aladdin's Oasis will be closed until Jan 2013...do you mean the Meet & Greet? Or the entire defunct "restaurant"? Basically, can I still go here to sit , eat & potty??;)

Chrissie, I dont know if its going to stay open but last couple of times we went, it was roped off..I went last about a month ago so heres hoping its not permanent

I agree. Loved the Tahitian Terrace!

If this thread becomes something that is going to be ongoing, may I make a small request for my own sanity? Pretty please... :worship:

Could the title and list heading please, pretty please, be changed to "Refurbs," not "Rehabs"?

Attractions are not rehabilitated like a drug treatment program, they are refurbished, like an apartment. Sorry to be the grammar geek on this one, but it drives me absolutely batty when posts on DIS constantly say "rehab" instead of "refurb." :faint: I never comment, because, let's face it, threads last on the "top" for a few days, so it's really not something to get persnickety about, :goodvibes but if this is going to be around for a while, for my own personal sanity, could that little tiny change please be made? Pretty please? Thank you. Thank you. Thank you! :flower3:

P.S. Tom, the DIS listing says Rehabs too. Just in case no one ever noticed. Yeah, drives me batty. What can I say? Blame my 7th grade English teacher. :teacher:
I will do something unusual here and agree with Disney Dreams for a change. ;) Rehab sounds like a detox process. Refurb is more descriptive of what is going on. My two cents and her two cents gets you four.

I will say I am more glad the list is better maintained now than what it is called.

:)

So you're glad the list has been refurbed...or was it rehabbed? ;)

Aladdin's Oasis used to be a restaurant way back in the day....it hasn't been "open" in years. Actually, recently they opened it so you can go in, sit down at the tables, and use the restrooms. I assumed it was still in that status.

From recent, within a week, reports it's being used as an Aladdin and Jasmine meet and greet. I imagine it's closed status is due to it not serving food as a restaurant.

I am somewhat bummed about the canal boats, but if that is all we have to miss on our trip in September then I am totally fine with it!! :hyper:

Beyond thrilled that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad isn't on the list. It is my DS's favorite ride. He would have been so bummed during our September trip.

They were closed last time I was at DL in September 2007.

That's one of our family favorites. I am so happy it is not on the list. We are already missing out on IASW for the holiday overlay.

Me to, that and the train. I expected some refurbs given our timing, but was actually hoping they were big rides and not little kid stuff. My son is a train fanatic.

Sooooooooo I used the Casey Jr. refurb as a reason to convince DH to drive down a day earlier and start in the park on Monday (Labor Day) instead of Tuesday. I'm sure the crowds will be worse but it gives us an extra weekend night to catch F! and Fireworks too. My reasoning worked, we get and extra half day in the park thanks to the official refurb info!:cool1:

Aloha,

According to Al Lutz of Miceage, Indy is going down for a refurb/rehab/closure/whatever on 4 September. No date given when Indy will be operational. Yikes!

Yes, I saw that too and said, 'Uh oh.' One of the rides I was REALLY looking forward to. Anyone have any more details on the accuracy of this report or rumored length of the refurb?

Are there any rumors about big refurbs after the Christmas season.I expect that something will be going down for refurb.

Is Al Lutz always right? Just curious on what he has been right on in the past about ride refurbs? Anyone know off hand?

No clue on the ride rehabs, but on the e-mail that was sent out about the Magic doing a repositioning cruise (it's really the Wonder) and a special tour they have at the Disney Family Museum. So whoever provided that information wasn't up to date on where the DCL ships are sailing.
