Regular to holding points?

I apologize if this is an age-old question. I have points in holding and unrestricted points in my current use year. I want to gift a family member with a week at a DVC resort. I can book the unit now with my regular points. Is there a way to switch the point allocation to my holding points at the 60-day mark, or do I have to cancel and take my chances that I can rebook with holding points within minutes of cancellling?

If you were allowed to switch, there would be no point to having put them in holding. The only way that you may be allowed to switch would be if a room of the same type is available for a new reservation at 60 days out.

Yeah, that's what I figured. No harm, no foul. Just confirming.

If you can find dates available 60 days out, then you can use holding points for those.

This happened to me. I was able to use them for my January reservation because 2 of my 4 nights were still there. It allowed me to modify and use up those points because of there still being nights. Had they not been there, it wouldn’t have worked.
