We had five days of the regular DDP last week and had appetizers four of the five nights. The exception was ordering the cheese soup at Le Celliere, for which we paid OOP. Here's the breakdown of appetizers:

Ohana- salad and dumplings (came with meal)
Mama Melrose- Fantasmic Package (everyone got their own appetizer)
Whispering Canyon- skillets all around- Everyone got their own platter of salad
Boma- Buffet style...everyone picked the salads/hummus/etc. they wanted.

Also (although we used DDE, it would have worked with DDP):
Liberty Tree- Salad- the meal is a complete meal
Tusker House- buffet style
Chef Mickey's- buffet style

If you stick to buffets, the regular DDP works just fine for appetizer/dessert. I know some folks don't love buffets, but we were satisfied.
