I want to get some sort of backpack for the bag we'll carry for our stuff around disney - we need a diaper bag as we have an 11 month old too. Do I get a regular backpack or a diaperbag backpack do you think? I was gonna look into a diaperbag backpack but is that a waste of cost and should I just go with a regular backpack? Any opinions? I hate to waste money....but I'm not lugging a regular diaper bag around downt here.
Any recommendations on a good traveling backpack?
I'll also have a 5 year old with me.

TIA
Laurie

I'd go for the regular backpack. Maybe throw in a big ziplock bag for wet clothes, and a lightweight blanket to lay down on changing tables. That way you'd have the same functions as a diaper bag backpack, but with a backpack you can use after the babies grow up. We bought an LL Bean bookpack to use as a diaper bag for DS when he was an infant. It finally wore out last year (he's 12, and uses it all the time) and LL Bean replaced it for free.

We just returned Sunday and we took a regular diaper bag with EVERYTHING in it, and a backpack to carry the important stuff! With the backpack, we kept our cash/tickets/camera in it, and carried it anytime that we left the stroller. We even left hats on the stroller and beach towels and they were never bothered!

I'd probably go with a regular backpack. I just think you can get more in them.

I think I'm going with a regular backpack this time. I'm trying to find one that has a light colored interior so that it will be easy to see inside and a minimum of outside pockets so that it won't take so long to get thru the security checks. I plan to organize the contents into ziplock bags as much as possible so that everything doesn't get so jumbled. I had orig. planned to use a really small bag or one of those diaper changing kits that is actually a big changing pad with pockets that folds up and hangs on the stroller handle. The plan was to keep that with us and stash a larger bag with extra supplies in a locker. But we changed our dates and are now going July 4th weekend. I figure as crowded as the parks will be it will probably be a lot more trouble to go back to the locker for things so we will just take a backpack and keep everything with us.

We actually used 2 backpacks...one for the baby things, and another for the camera, video camera, etc. When we went on rides we left the baby backpack in the stroller basket and carried the "camera" backpack.

We are going this June with an infant so we will probably do the same.

We had an Eagle Creek diaper backpack when our son was born and it made several Disney trips with us... works very well! When it got worn out last year, we bought a regular Eddie Bauer backpack at Target. It's very sturdy but what I miss the most is that it does not have bottle holders on the outside (and we had 2 on the diaper backpack!) - handy for sippy cups or water bottles. If you do get a regular backpack, make sure to get one with bottle holders!

We have an Eddie Bauer diaper backpack. It's been everywhere with us (including two Disney trips). I don't consider it a waste of money AT ALL. I think it cost us $48, but I love it. We'll be taking it for a third trip in September.

It's got two side holders for bottles/cups, plus 3 more in one of the pockets. It has 5 separate pockets, the biggest has a detachable waterproof zip-up bag. It's got a changing pad (which I think is necessary for public restrooms) and a cell-phone holder on the shoulder (which is also handy for small cameras). The shoulder pads are very comfortable.

I recommend this one.
