HI!

DH and I live in Houston, Tx. We are expecting anywhere from 2-6 inches of snow tomorrow - the earliest snow in recorded weather history around here...

Anywho - it isn't supposed to freeze until tomorrow night after we get home, but it will be COLD all day tomorrow. I have some azaleas I know I need to cover - but when? Tommorrow before leaving work or when I get home? The potted jasmine will go inside - but do I need to cover the roses and the gardenias?

As you can tell, it doesn't freeze here often, and this is the first "big" freeze we've had since we bought our home 2.5 years ago. Any and all help appreciated!

coming from the unpredictable state of Wisconsin I would suggest coving them before work just incase it freezes sooner.

Sorry, semi-OT but I read the title as pants instead of plants so I was curious to see where this was going... I got a laugh when I realized it wasn't pants.

How cold is cold during the day tomorrow? If it is going to be less than 35 I would cover them before you go to work. We usually just use bed sheets to do that around here.

It's December 4th and we have NO SNOW in Minnesota-just in case you wanted to know that :lmao:

Well snow is good and a natural cover.:thumbsup2 The snow/ice will actually keep your plants warm.

What kind of azaleas?

Cover everything that normally blooms in winter. How many roses are we talking? They need to be mulched.

I would certainly cover gardenias.

Thanks for the responses!

3 rose bushes, one is rather large and showy, a BIG pink azalea bush (over 5 feet, and that is after pruning!)

I just looked up - IT IS SNOWING! (And raining at the same time, but still...)

WOW.

Thanks for the advice - I think I'm going to cover them before I leave!

Jaime
