regarding sofas and couchs and davenports

nope the side porch or back porch.....In georgia I read on line that some people still refer to the porch as the Piazza

We always had a deck and front porch. Grandma does call her couch a davenport though still.

My DAD (80yo) has always called the disposal a "PIG"...weird.. :lmao:

Despite hearing that my whole life..in our house it is a "disposal"...and how original of all of us.... :lmao:

We lived a short time in OHIO coming from New England....

First time we went to the DRIVE-UP Bank Teller in Sylvania, Ohio...my boys were quite young...the clerk says.."Thank You and any SUCKERS out there"...

WHATTTTT, suckers....who is she calling a sucker...she doesn't even know us...all this is going through my head and I say "EXCUSE ME" and she says...

LOLLIPOPS....I see you have little ones...how many lollipops....

Ohhhh....so a SUCKER in Ohio is really a lollipop!!!!

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

My parents called the fridge an ice box, the couch a divan(devan?), soft drinks pop, lollipops suckers, and me son :sunny:

I call a disposal a disposal, a lollipop a lollipop, and a couch a bed for dh.

My Grandmother called the porch the piazza, too...and the living room was the parlor...and a hot dog was a frank.

Visiting my sister in College Station, Texas, I ordered a coke with my meal. The waitress asked, "What kind?" Ummmm, Coke? My sister took over ordering for me.

Apparently, "coke" is the generic term for soda there.

no, no, no, silly ;) They are not the same. The suckers are the smaller sphere shaped candies on a stick. A lollipop is one of the big round flat ones :teeth:

I do love hearing the regional differneces though :p

Your post made me laugh. Growing up my aunt and uncle lived in NH and when we'd go up to visit she'd ask if we wanted a tonic (tawnic) lol. We didn't know it was soda until we made a yuck face and said we don't like seltzer lol.

That brought back some nice memories...thank you. :lmao:

We sat on a divan while I was growing up. My neighbors had a sofa. No one I knew had a couch.

OOOOOOOOh.....well, thanks for clearing that up...too funny...BUT seriously, when she ever just so NICELY said ..."how many SUCKERS out there"...I am thinking, here I am all the way from home, from my Boston roots and first thing someone is calling me is a SUCKER??? :lmao:

AND so funny, as they say POP instead of soda and despite the fact we were there almost 3 years, I never caught onto calling soda, POP at all.... :rotfl:

I was born and raised in Illinois, attended university in Florida, went to grad school/medical school in Ohio, and now practice in Indiana. I have never called a "sucker" anything besides a "sucker". Nobody I ever grew up with or worked with called them anything else, either. A "lollipop" is what my dad called the elevated water reserviors that have the town names written on them, but, he always called the little candies "suckers".

Believe me, as a health professional, I have distributed my share of "suckers" over the years, to whichever of my young patients whose parents will allow it.
