Regal Palms Resort?

A bunch of friends and I are trying to find a nice, yet affordable hotel in the Orlando area. We are spending two days at Universal and one day at the Magic Kingdom.

First of all, I've read through some threads having to do with this resort and it has gotten very mixed reviews, mostly based on whether the stay was booked with a private owner or not. So I'd like to hear about any experiences people have had with this resort and also how to get in touch with any private owners. The price I found on Travelocity was 139 a night, and I'm trying to stay between 100 and 150 for a 4 night stay.

Second of all, how is the location? I don't know where any hotels are in the area. But because we're going to two different theme parks, I want to be somewhere in the middle. I recall the drive from Disney resorts to Universal being a bit lengthy, but its been a while since my last Universal visit. If this location isn't ideal, are there any suggestions for other hotels that would be for visiting both parks?

You may have seen a couple of my posts on Regal Palms in your search. We liked the resort...but went through a private owner.

It is kind of far from Universal...maybe a half hour? It is about 15-20 minutes to Disney without traffic. For your plans, I think I might stay somewhere else because of the distance.

You might consider Marriott's Grande Vista, Marriott's Cypress Harbor or Horizons. Not sure of the rates, but type M11 into the promo code on the marriott website to see if they offer member rates for your dates. You can always sign up for free.

Another recommendation would be Hilton Grand Vacation Club on I-Drive and the one near SeaWorld.

Sheraton's Vistana and Vistana Villages are also nice. Check out skyauction.com for Sheraton. Sometimes you can score a nice deal there.
