Has anyone made a regular reservation then cancelled it to use their DVC membership? What were the cancellation policies like? And were you hassled or argued with by a CM while trying to do this? Thanks
You can cancel a "room only" reservation up until 5 days prior to arrival without being penalized. (If you cancel within that time, you forfeit your deposit.)
They don't hassle you, but I would suggest that you first get your DVC reservation set before canceling just in case.
No, we are not trying to convert a cash to point reservation... We are trying to ensure we have a reservation at all. Our resale points purchase (our first DVC purchase, YEAH!) will not close until mid or late June, but we are planning a family trip to celebrate our son's first birthday over July 14th. With the special deals and what not we are afraid that we will not be able to get a DVC res at the time we close, so we figured we would make a cash reservation, just in case, but wanted to know the cancellation issues, in case we are able to get a DVC res.
I just did this today in fact. I had a CRO cash ressie at the Polynesian at a AP Discount for 5/8 (yes in 2 days). Today I got a ressie using DVC points at WLV for the same night. (Thanks to renting points, as I am all out of my own for the year!) CRO cancelled my Poly ressie with no penalties because, as they said, "you will not be penalized for being a DVC member." CRO did ask for my WLV confirmation number.
