Refused new tickets using old park hoppers!

:sad2: Just want to share my incredibly frustrating experience!! I did all of my research ahead of time with the great posts on this board and the great spreadsheets that other users had taken the time to create for the rest of us. I went armed with the info that the trade-in of old park hoppers towards the cost of new MYW tickets could only be done at Guest Relations.

On our day of arrival (5/04), we went to the guest relations center at Downtown Disney and I presented our 4 day park hopper tickets (two days remaining) and told the cast member that I wanted to apply the value of those 2 remaining days towards 10 day MYW tickets. He said there is no such option after 14 days and I had no choice but to use them up as is. I told him that I firmly believed that this was not the case and why wouldn't Disney encourage people to lock in to even more days. He was flip and actually rude (and, yes, I know, I should have tried for a supervisor, but was so frustrated and taken back by his attitude). We left and I called DVC (the only number I had with me) and they confirmed that you can indeed apply these to a tnew ticket and she gave me another number. I called that number and got to a supervisor who said, yes, that is indeed an option, but only the guest relations at the actual theme parks can handle that, not the Downtown Disney folks.

So....almost an hour wasted and feeling all wigged out, I went on with the hope that this would still get taken care of. Friday, May 6th, I went to the Guest Relations booth at Animal Kingdom and was again told there is no such option - she did go consult a supervisor at my request and came back with that "Disney just wants you to all use up your old passes as is"- I felt like I was insane after having read so many details about this on the boards here and did push the conversation, but to no avail.

We used the old ticket than as is - felt we had no choice by then - and went into Animal Kingdom - Later that day, we went to Epcot - for the heck of it, I went to their guest relations booth who told me that, yes, it is an option, but since I only had one day left on the passes now, it made no sense for me to do it (which is still incorrect I beleive since the 10 day MYW tickets come out to such a low price per day) and quickly dismissed me.

Can someone who has actually done this please tell me where I went so wrong?? Was there some secret code language I should have used??? Also, what are your thoughts on the one day not being worth it now? We are going back in December, so I would have another shot at this

Thanks to anyone who can shed some light on this for me

You answered your own question. The one day ticket is still worth money towards your MYW tickets.

My SIL recently called to get pricing info on trading in her old tix. She was told that she could trade in her old tickets, but instead of being credited with the per day cost left on her old tickets, she would only save herself the difference on the new tickets. For instance, say the old tickets cost $50/day and she had 2 days left on a ticket. Instead of crediting my SIL with $100 toward a new ticket, WDW would instead exchange her old ticket for a new ticket at the price of 2 less days (like $6 savings between a 10 MYW and an 8 day MYW). So, instead of saving $100 off the current ticket, you would only save $6 off the current ticket. SIL determined that she was much better off to use the old ticket and buy the 10 day non-expiry MYW.

I'm sorry you had so much trouble. I hope your trip was enjoyable!

Wow - interesting - thanks EthansMom for that info - It is completely contradictory though to all of the info that has been on the boards, including the links to AllEars and another one I recently saw

Has anyone actually been successful at getting the full dollar value of their old tickets recently or did Disney put the kabosh on it??

You would never have gotten the full dollar value of the tickets. You might have gotten credit for the two remaining days.

Were they plus tickets? Had the pluses been used? My understanding is that once the first plus is used this becomes an accounting nightmare and you may not get any credit.

The most you would get is 1/4 of the price paid. (Note: If you purchased the ticket someplace besides Disney this may not equal your price paid) If you had pluses and used them all bets are off on what you get.

My experience has been to go to guest relations at a theme park. Four years a go we stayed at BWV, I thought I knew how many days were left on our tix ( numerous tix , family of six) but wanted it verified...I was told no days left. We got to the room, I threw away the Tix and then pulled them out of the trash an hour later....2 days left on each park hopper. I now mark the tix as we use them. Good luck!!

Yes, I know it contradicts all the info. I've read too. But makes some kind of sense, esp. since there's no telling what you REALLY paid for that ticket -- I know my old Park Hopper tix list a price that is more than I paid.

I think the most important thing, is that there isn't any way to get a straight answer from the WDW folks on ticket exchanges. :confused3

If they told you no days were left how did you find out there were 2 days left later on? was it a different person and place?
