We went to MK yesterday (Monday) and all the holiday decorations were down. It amazes me how fast they do these things. We watched the Castle show sitting near the raised planter area. When we went back to MK today that entire planter area was enclosed with the familiar Disney green construction 'walls.' We walked up the ramp to go through the Castle to Fantasyland, turned around and looked back--we could see over the green walls and everything was gone--all the planters, the flowers--etc. All we could see was a few light posts and a lot of dirt. WOW!! I knew they were planning on doing this to make a better viewing area for the new Cinderellabration show--but I didn't expect it to happen so quickly!

Does anyone know how long this refurbishment will take place?

There was some gold stuff on the castle during the holidays but it is gone now. It looked nice.

No you can still see the castle. I guess it would about as high as the stage is so you can see the castle.

I feel sorry for people who come the week after new years and didn't get to see the decorations. There are many areas now with somewhat unsightly, though tastefully done barriers. The view of the castle IS slightly obstructed. People can no longer stand on the main street side of the circle and look over the low foliage since there are now 7-8ft plywood barriers in their place. This means that there are even fewer places to view the live show at the base of the Castle. I think it was "Cinderella's Surprise Celebration" or some such when we were there.

There are many other areas in the parks where the landscaping is changing and these barriers are evident. Even entering the MK you see the barriers where once pretty landscaping was evident.

I am so upset!! I will be honeymooning in Disney in March and I was so excited to get that posed picture in front of the castle and now there are 7ft walls around it! Oh well...that's life!! lol......At least we will be in Disney! YIPPEE!! Just have to have that picture taken next time!

Does anyone know when the walls will be taken down? Can you still walk through the castle?

Thanks!!
Jamie

Yes you can walk through the castle. It isn't affecting the castle at all. It is just the hub in front of the castle.

try to get a picture from the side maybe the barriers will not show...such as the walkway over to Frontierland or tomorrowland or that little path that you can take from Liberty square to the back of the castle...very pretty views from there with castle in back

Regarding when it should be done, I will be there the last week in January and will update on the progress then. But, I assume it should be done by spring in anticipation of the start of the celebration early in May. :cheer2:

Although the Happiest Celebration on Earth begins in May 2005, does anyone know how long it will last? I'll be back to Disney November 2006. Probably not over a year if I had to guess.

This is a bit disappointing to hear. I'm taking people who have never been before and there's going to be a lot of construction walls....

Lots of things down for refurbishment...

Guess that's the price we pay for going now. Oh, well.

The celebration runs through October 2006, unfortunatly you will just miss it.

I bet it goes through 12/2006. They extended the 25th celebration into 2003. Started 10/1/2001 ended 2/28/2003. . . I believe.

The 100 Years of Magic was extended because the start of the celebration was delayed untill December 1, due to 9/11. The celebration is currently planed to run till October 31, 2004. However, anything is possible. Time will tell if the data changes.
