My husband wants a PS3. We have decided not to buy each other gifts this year (only gifts for the kids), but I thought I'd surprise him and get him one, since the whole family would benefit from the Blu-ray player. I checked ebay to see if there were any affordable used deals, and I'm seeing a lot of "AS-IS" auctions, with consoles that don't work, for parts. Is it easy and affordable to repair a game system? Why would someone just need "parts" of a system? These systems are considerably cheaper than a new one, but I don't want to invest in a pile of junk unless I'd be able to get it working for less than a new one. Any comments/thoughts/info would be helpful.
