I'm seriously considering purchasing an 18-135 lens for my Canon Rebel EOS. Adorama has a refurbished model. Does anyone have experience with this lens? Or buying other lens refurbished from Adorama? I'd be using it for around the house - no kids, just pets and on vacation at Disney/Universal primarily. I already have a nifty fifty :) as well as a 55-250 (which I never use!) I don't want to buy another lens that I'll find I don't have as much use for as I'd hoped but I'm hoping this could become my all purpose lens with those others available when needed. Would love your thoughts!!

I bought a refurbished 70-200mm F4L IS from Adorama over a year ago.

Adorama was easy to deal with and shipped quickly. One advantage over buying it from Canon was that Adorama does not charge sales tax to ship to my state (YMMV).

The lens looked unused and works brilliantly.

No worries mate!

Also, the warranty on refurbs direct from Canon is only 90 days, but if you get one from Adorama it's a full 12 months! (But Canon refurbishes them, not Adorama)

The 18-135 came with my 60D and I've been pleased with it. It's my walk-around lens. Occasionally I'll switch to the 55-250 when I don't have quite enough reach, but it hasn't been as often as I thought it would be. I think 18-135 will be a good range for your needs, although it can be a bit slow. Low light will have you reaching for your nifty fifty, and the parks might have you wishing for something a little wider, but I think the 18-135 fits the walk-around category well.

As for the refurbished lens from Adorama, I almost had an experience with that. I tried to purchase a refurbished 10-22 from them, but it turned out to be no longer available. So they gave me a good deal on a new lens instead, but I would have been comfortable buying the refurbished based on what I had read about them.

The 18-135 mm is my main walk-around as well. It's also a great range for use in the parks. You'll rarely feel like you're too close or far from getting decent shots. Like someone else said, it's not the super best in low light; but it's not horrible.

For indoors at home, I've found myself using my external flash more and more (bouncing it off the ceiling); or my Sigma 30mm when I wanna get more creative.
