Refurbished I-Touch

My DS wants an 8 GB 3rd generation Itouch for his birthday. I have found some refurbished ones online from a reputable company. What are your thoughts? Is it really worth the $30 dollar savings to risk it?

I have purchased 2 refurbished from Apple. No issues and they come with a warranty.

Apple has them in their online outlet. I've had mine for 6 months with no problems. I bought an additional warranty from Square Trade too, just in case, but I did that when I bought a new one too. Square Trade covers breakage and other things the standard warranty doesn't.

Always buy refurbished, but ALWAY buy directly from Apple, do NOT use an outside company. We have never had a problem.

We usually only buy refurbs from Apple. I got one for Christmas new and had nothing but problems and they replaced it. Next time I will let them refurbish it before I buy it!

We always buy refurbished through Apple.com too. Never a problem. In fact I just ordered an iTouch 32G 2nd generation for DH for Valentines Day.

We've never had a problem with a refurbished I-pod, and we have several. Like PP's, we've always bought directly from Apple though.

I purchased the refurbished 2nd Generation 8gb iTouch for DS for Xmas for $149. Upgraded to the 3rd Generation software for $4.95 on Apple's website.

There is no physical difference between the 2nd and 3rd generation iTouch. It's the software. Also the 32 mg and 64 mg headphones come with a mic. These headphones are not included with the 8 mg.

There is no physical difference between the 2nd and 3rd generation iTouch. It's the software. Also the 32 mg and 64 mg headphones come with a mic. These headphones are not included with the 8 mg.

That is only true with the 8 gig model not true with the 32 and 64 gig models.

The 3rd gen has a faster processor, comes with mic and remote headphones and has the built in voice control and voice recorder and OpenGL ES 2.0 graphics support. for a few dollars more well worth the upgrade.

8gb is too small... i got my daughter a 16gb 2nd generation new at amazon a few months ago and it is almost full and theres plenty of stuff i have that isn't on it too. i kind of wish i'd just sprung for the 32 3rd generation... i have a 32 iphone and it has about 20 gb full, i can't imagine having only 8 even on hers. If you buy the referbished direct from apple you won't notice a difference in the ipod vs new and it still comes with the one year warrenty... i have purchased referebished from apple before and been happy with it so it's really up to you, you can still purchase the extended warrenty on a referbished one as well... i suggest getting it through ebay instead of apple it's cheaper that way (the warrenty, not the referbished ipod only way i'd get one of those is from apple).

I totally agree with you about the 8 gig being too small! I feel that in the long run it will be a waste of almost $200 because it will fill up fast and need to be replaced with a higher gig model. I orginally ordered a refurbished 16 gig from apple for DS at Christmas and sent it back after seeing how fast my iphone(16 gig) was filling up and ordered him a 32 gigfrom amazon for about $60 more with discounts and bonuses it really came out as a great deal. Got free magazines and MP3 downloads with it.

Both my Dh and I got 16 G referbs in the past few months. We have had no issues. My SIL got one that was defective and had to be returned to Apple, my BIL got one and it was fine. All but mine was bought from Apple.com mine was purchased as an old model new from Amazon.

I love mine.
