Refund from Disney - experience with expired card??

I put a deposit on a Disney Cruise a couple of years ago - I kept changing the date as our circumstances changed and short story - we never have taken a cruise (but really want to!!) Anyway... I called our travel agent to finally call off the hunt and requested a refund.

Since the time of making the deposit with my debit card, a new debit card has been issued - with another number!! I was told that Disney can't make a change to another card for a refund. I called the bank and they said they can't do anything about it (was Wachovia, now Wells Fargo).

Does anyone have experience with how Disney will handle the refund if it is "returned" to them for an invalid account number? Do they try again, send a paper check? I've lived without this $$ for years, so a few more weeks won't hurt anything, but don't want it to be tied up in limbo forever!

Thanks for any info!

I was at the Polynesian last month and paid in gift cards. I originally put my deposit on a visa. Well- that visa got lost, so I had a replacement. Anyway- it was a different card. We had an issue with our trip and ended up with one nights credit. I assumed they would refund the card on file, but since that card had never been charged by them for anything, they would not refund it. I didnt find any of this out until we got home like a week later. I was told I would get a gift card but it would take awhile. We had also put a deposit on a new trip, and the cm said that since I had used the card (even for a different transaction) then they could refund it. Took awhile to get to that, but you are going to have to talk to someone at Disney and insist you need it refunded.

hmmm....that is an interesting dilemma, I have been paying for our trip with gift cards and and my TA has told me to keep each and every one untill I come home because they will only refund to the original card used. ( Not that that answers your question). I would think that someone has the authority to at least issue you a gift card. It may take sending emails or letters, but I would not give up untill something is done.

I can tell you we had this exact situation occur with a credit card that was used to pay [in this case, in full at the time of reservation] was between the time of DCL buying transaction and cancelling transaction, compromised/stolen and had a replacement card issued. The TA involved stated that DCL couldn't process the refund to a different card number, but what would happen is DCL would issue a check for refund. Well, that's not what happened. DCL initiated the refund against the original card number, and the bank processed the credit to the replacement card number. Doubt DCL ever knew anything about the revised card number. Hope this helps.

Is your checking account still open? If so, the bank should be able to post the credit through to your account.

Thank you for your replies - it's been a week today and haven't seen any activity of the refund through my bank. The original bank account is still open (has been for over 25 years - through many buy-outs).

When I called Wells Fargo they told me that the card number I used is not associated with the Wells Fargo account, she said she assumed it was in the Wachovia files, but she couldn't be sure (lots of help!)

I hope it's totally seamless and will just "go through". I think I have read that it takes a while for Disney to issue refunds.

The TA said to give it 2 weeks then contact her back. I'm not good at waiting!

Thanks again.
